will heat or cold help?
I have a really bad tooth that has been broken off in lots of pain i am on penicillin its swollen?
only a dentist can help =)
Reply:you need to go the dentist. if that tooth has decayed (which it might have if it's breaking off) then it needs to be extracted.
Reply:Cold may numb it a little for a short while but it also can hurt a bad tooth . Your best bet is take ibuprofen or some type of pain reliever and get to a dentist tomorrow or asap.
Reply:neither will help much. What you need is some Aleve or Motrin...anything with Ibuprofen in it. You should take 2 or 3 depending on your age and all. It is an anti-inflammatory, so it will help a little with the swelling. Also, there is something called Clove Oil that you can put on there, but be careful not to touch your tongue with it, because it will numb your tongue, and it tastes awful. Your best bet of course is going to the dentist, but these will help for the time being.
Reply:I'm going to tell you how to help it but you need to see a dentist pretty quick. What you need to do is fill the hole. There is a product at the drug store called Temparin by DenTek. Just get a package, break off a piece and put it in the broken tooth. When the substance gets wet it will harden like a filling. It will keep air out and food out and therefore, help you heal. The reason you need to get the tooth pulled or filled is that rotten teeth can poison your entire body, especially your heart. Good Luck.
Reply:Cold to reduce the swelling, swish whiskey over the tooth to relieve the pain, then haul yourself off to your dentist ASAP.
Reply:USE HEAT. It helps constrict your blood vessels allowing the antibiotic to work primary at the site of infection!! However, if swelling starts to go up by your eye and/or on your neck and starts to conflict with your airway, you need to go to the ER.

What are signs that teeth are starting to break skin?
Signs of teething are: baby will chew on EVERYTHING! He/she will shove their fist in their mouth and chew. They will drool ALOT! Fussiness and a low grade fever is not uncommon. The first teeth grow in on the bottom so look for little tooth buds on the bottom gum if they have the above signs.
What are signs that teeth are starting to break skin?
You can actually see them coming below the gums, plus all the drooling and sometimes crankiness.
Reply:YOu can see them, the babies drool, and you can actually rub your finger across them and feel them cutting through
Reply:Fever and diarrhea, and lots of fussiness.
Reply:Lots of drooling. A tendency to bite on things (once called 'cutting' the teeth) that are hard, like keys or any hard object (helps to push the teeth through the gums).
Cranky behavior - crying... general kind of grumpiness.
You can feel or see the teeth starting to break the surface if you can get the child to open up (and not try chomping your finger off - those gums can hurt LOL).

Reply:Baby may get irritable. Gums might swell and look red. Sometimes you don't notice until you hear the little teeth clicking on the spoon when feeding! That happened with my son's first two teeth.
Reply:Hi, drooling and gums hurt so he would want to bite or hold something in his mouth. You can see his gums reddish and swollen...thats what my lilttle one had...hope this helps
Reply:You'll feel the point of the teeth just below the gum.
Reply:Irritability: As the sharp little tooth rises closer to the surface your baby’s gums may become increasingly more sore and painful, leading to your baby being very fussy. The pain and discomfort is most often worse during the first teeth coming in and later when the molars come in because of their bigger size. This is most often the case since babies become accustomed to the sensations of teething and learn to live with them. But you may find your baby may be fussy during the whole time that every tooth comes in. Every child reacts differently.
Drooling: From three to four months of age you may see your baby start drooling more often than normal. Teething stimulates drooling, which is often worse with some babies than others.
Coughing: The extra saliva can cause your baby to occasionally cough or gag. This is usually nothing to worry about as long as your baby seems fine and shows no signs of a cold or flu and does not run a high fever.
Chin rash: If your baby is a big drooler, the constant contact with saliva can cause the skin around the chin and mouth to become irritated. To help prevent this, gently wipe your baby’s mouth and chin periodically throughout the day.
Biting %26amp; gnawing: A baby that is teething will gnaw and gum down on anything she or he can get their mouth around. The counter pressure from biting on something helps relieve the pressure from under the gums.
Cheek rubbing and ear pulling: Pain in the gums may travel to the ears and cheeks particularly when the back molars begin coming in. This is why you may see your baby rubbing their cheeks or pulling at their ears. However, keep in mind that pulling at an ear can also be a sign of an ear infection.
Diarrhea: While this is a symptom that is disagreed upon by physicians, researchers and parents, most parents usually notice slightly looser bowel movements when a baby is teething. While the recent study done by the Children’s Hospital in Australia found this to be the most common symptom of teething, there are still many people that will agree and disagree with this recent study. It is believed that the most likely cause of this is the extra saliva swallowed, which then loosens the stool. Be sure and report any diarrhea to your doctor that lasts more than two bowel movements.
Low-grade fever: A fever is another symptom that doctors are sometimes hesitant to directly link with teething. But there are many parents who will disagree with this and find their baby gets a slight fever while teething. The best thing to do is be extra safe and notify your doctor if a fever last more than two days.
Not sleeping well: With teething pain happening during the day and night, you may find your child wakes more often at night when the pain gets bad enough. Most parents agree that the night waking happens more often during the first set of teeth and with the molars.
Cold like symptoms (runny nose, etc.): Some parents find that their baby will show signs of having a cold. Runny noses, coughing and general cold symptoms are believed to come from the baby having their hands in their mouth more often. Play it safe and always notify your doctor if symptoms such as this occur.
Reply:The gums start to swell %26amp; just before they come out you will start to see the gums turning a lighter color. It will help the pain if you rub the gums with a cold cloth.
Reply:I agree with what others have said are signs of teeth about to break through, I just wanted to share the best thing to give a baby who is teething. http://www.hylands.com/products/teething...
they are amazing. My son would stop screaming in less than a minute after he took them (they are little sugar pills that dissolve on contact with your baby's tongue.) He would calm down enough to nurse or take a bottle and then go to sleep - when he might have been screaming and crying just a few minutes earlier.

Im getting braces the doctor told me i have to take out 4 teeth,?
can anyone tell me if it is painful for them? how painful was it? im really scared also did you take out 4 teeth at one time? or did you take break like take off one tooth this week and another tooth the week after until all 4 teeth are removed and does it hurt to put on braces? how does it feel afterwards can u talk right with it
Im getting braces the doctor told me i have to take out 4 teeth,?
I also had to take out 4 teeth for braces. They might take it out all at once, depending where it's located. It's not that painful since they will numb your mouth first. You'll just feel a little discomfort afterwards and you might drool since your mouth may still be numb.
When they put on braces, its not that painful, just really uncomfortable because you mouth will be stretch open for like 2 hours. But afterwards, it will hurt. It'll feel like someone has punched your face 100 times.
Reply:MAKE SURE THEY NUMB YOU UP GOOD OK but make sure your numbed up also use salt water to watch it out.
it hurts like hell but get some vicodine but you probably won't be able to drive if you do thanks
Reply:i had two teeth taken out at the same time and it didnt hurt. You can only feel the pressure of the tooth being taken out but no pain. As for the braces, it doesnt hurt getting them put on but it sucks trying to eat for a couple of days. You get used to them though and its easy enough to talk. The bit i didnt like was getting them tightened. i dont know if that was just coz my orthodontist was an *** but it hurt for me. Also getting them off isnt that great a feeling either. Nor is getting a mould of your teeth for a plate. Dont worry though you'll be fine
Reply:i had braces a few years ago and i had to take out 2 teeth which isnt nearly as bad as 4 but its about the same experience. the dentist didnt pull out both of my teeth at the same time. i think it was a tooth one week and another a week after. but other cases it could be two at a time but not all at once. for me it didnt hurt to put on braces. braces only hurt for a few days after each time theyre tightened. when you have braces on, you talk basically the same way you talk without it. you'll eventually get used to having braces on youre teeth and it'll feel like normal. it may be painful at times but its worth it to have straight teeth after having it.

(4)in d hands of a good dentist,u'll never ever feel pain for braces; instead u'll feel pressure, thats al! That is d sign your teeth is moving to d place where it has to be!

Reply:I had four teeth removed when I got braces. It was one of my better dental experiences. The doctor gave me a small dose of Valium to take the morning of the procedure since I was so terrified, then they gave me laughing gas during the procedure. My mom, who was in the room, said I was grinning from ear to ear while they were pulling them out. I only felt a small amount of pressure, and they healed rather quick. However when I went to get my braces tightened they did something called the claw. Which is when they bend the wire a certain way to pull the gap closed. That was uncomfortable for the next few months. But I'm very happy with the final result. Just remind yourself - its all worth it in the end.
Reply:Do not do it!!! I had perfectly straight teeth, but a "cross bite" and had my teeth pulled for the braces. Once my wisdom teeth grew in (which weren't supposed to form and Oh, guess what? At age 39 they discovered I actually have "extra" teeth.." Anyway, once the wisdom teeth were pulled, I was left with a 1/4" gap between my front teeth that has to be "filled in" with bonding. My "bite" on my molars never changed EVER and to this day, I have a "crossbite".
Reply:Not at all. It's usually up to you; if you feel right you can get all 4 taken out at once, or do one side at a time. The admission of local anesthesia means that you won't feel any pain. However, you will be able to feel the pressure of the extraction and when the tooth comes away from the jawbone. I had the two sides done one week apart from each other only because that way at least I could still eat normal food one one side for a week. The extraction site will need extra care (rinsing with salt water after day 1 etc) for about a week. After I got home I took some painkiller just in case but never felt any pain.
Just got my braces on yesterday. What I can tell you is that the bonding up of braces does not hurt one bit. As pressure builds up after 4-5 hours they will start to feel a bit tender. Today they are pretty sore. But they are not sore 24/7, pain is only experienced when pressure is applied on the teeth, eg. chewing, bumping etc. So no it will not hurt to talk. One thing that's stopping me from talking completely normally now is the tender spots in my mouth from rubbing against the braces of which they will get better with time. I've heard that Bonjela's especially good for treating this.
I know extracting 4 teeth seems pretty scary at first, but you're going to be fine. Your body has this amazing ability to heal and adapt, provided you follow exactly the instructions given by your dentist and orthodontist. It's all worth it, you're going to sport a beautiful set of smile which is going to last you a life time. All the best!

How feel I feel after having seven teeth removed and after being under IV sedation?
I have exactly four hours before time to go to the oral surgeon and I am nervous. I am going to have seven teeth removed and I am horrified! I don't like not knowing what to expect. What am I going to feel like after having all those teeth removed? Just FYI, five are wisdom teeth (I have an extra one that hasn't grown in yet) and the two bottom ones are decayed and broken off into the bone. The other tooth is in front of the bottom wisdom tooth and there's an upper tooth on the side that's cracked.
Will I feel sleepy after the IV sedation? Also, if I require stitches, which I'm sure I will, do those hurt? Does it hurt to have them removed or do they give you disolvable ones?
How long will it be before I can eat regular food again? Is there any possibility that I won't wake from the anesthesia?
Any advice you can give would be great!
How feel I feel after having seven teeth removed and after being under IV sedation?
This is very routine, don't worry. I have worked in oral surgery forever (literally, my dad is an oral surgeon and now I work for a practice that has 6 doctors). The IV is the only thing you will feel, and that is just a little pinch! You will wake up all groggy. Go home and sleep. After the anesthetic wears off, you will have some discomfort, but remember, this is surgery, although it is is not considered major surgery, it is still invasive! Make sure you stay hydrated, push lots of clear liquids. Someone answered and said not to drink, they have no idea what they are talking about! Your oral surgeons assistants should go over all of your post-op stuff with you again, and with your ride. It is normal to feel some anxiety before surgery, but it is not good to freak yourself out like you are doing! I hope this helps. Email me if you have any questions~
Reply:It wont be so bad with modern dentistry. You will be sent home with pain relievers and antibiotics. Try to relax and not worry.
Reply:I dont think they will take 7 teeth together...the bleeding will be too much i guess. They will take one or two then ask you to come later. And abt the pain...after the injection, you wont know a thing even if they blow off your lower jaw with a dynamite...lol
Reply:I was freaked when I was getting my wisdom teeth pulled, but they gave me some numbing cream on my arm for the IV, and when they gave it to me, I literally felt nothing. They took me to the operating room, and the doctor told me he was going to give me something that would make me fall asleep, I was out seconds later. When you wake up you are so drugged up, you can't feel anything. I was pretty much out of it for the whole day. Just go home, take your meds and you will be fine.
I got dissolvable stitches and they didnt hurt at all. They will just fall out within a few weeks of surgery and it wont hurt a bit.
Hope everything goes well for you!
Reply:You might feel a little sleepy - they give you pain medication so that makes you sleepy too.
For a while after the surgery, until the numbing meds wear off, your lips will be swollen. I couldn't drink for the first few hours after my surgery. The stitches dissolve, so worries there.
Your face will probably bruise, mine turned horrible shades of purple, black and green %26amp; my face was swollen for a few days afterwards.
You'll probably want to eat mushy foods for a few days, the surgeon will explain what you can and can't eat. Believe me, the discomfort you'll feel is FAR elss than the pain you're going to be in without the surgery.

Whats the worst of infected wisdom teeth?
All my wisdom teeth have been trying to come out since 2000, they are all still under the gum but mostly out however they have come out a bit rotten, anyway for the last year one is harassing me and is getting worst as it keeps on breaking (about 1/4 ofa tooth left plus root) and getting infected, at the moment im taking metroindzole cause im highly allergic to penacilin.
For this week again i have ongoing ear and headacke as well as my gum turning bright yellow but not hurting, whats the worst that can happen? what should i do? the dentists an hospitals keep cancelling me cause im sickle cell anemic. Whats the worst to happen other than waiting for the root to fall out thats if i dont attempt to pull it out myself???
Whats the worst of infected wisdom teeth?
What's the worst thing? Well dental infections (bacterial infection) can lead to blood poisoning (septicemia) and this can cause serious illness, organ failure or even death.
It's unlikely, but getting blood poisoning is no laughing matter.
Antibiotics are good, when they work. But when they don't work.....then what?
If your gum is yellow, then it shows it has pus in it (Immune reaction) so your gum is infected. Your gum is connected to your blood supply.
See a doctor immediately, better still, go to your local Accident %26amp; Emergency room (casualty) and show the Doctor there. They will treat you and not ignore you.
Until then, go to your chemist/dentist and buy a super powerful anti-bacterial mouth wash and continue to brush your teeth - even if it's very painful, you must do it.
The product is called: Corsodyl
Good luck.
Reply:omg girl why dont you get them removed?????????
If the dentist is being an idiot them MOVE to another one
The pain from an infected wisdom tooth is horrific, i cant believe you are putting up with this, i would put in a complaint!!!
Reply:you might want to look into getting a lawyer if the dentist and hospitals won't help you. if your tooth just keeps rotting it can spread infection into your gums and jaw bone. you need your infected tooth extracted. asap. it sounds like the tooth was impacted and then started rotting because it wasn't cleaned properly (which is sometimes difficult to do when your tooth is impacted). get that tooth out. soon! if it's hurting your head and ears that is a bad sign. get it out.
Reply:Get them removed, it's common for wisdom teeth to be removed under general anaesthetic if they are deformed or unhealthy.
Reply:OUCH, find a dentist that will do something for you. It'll only get worse and could potentially harm your health, you could end up with blood poisoning and die. GET THEM ALL OUT. I had my wisdom teeth out 4 yrs ago and have never had any probs since.
Good luck!
Reply:Wow, you need to be more authoritative with your dentist and caring with your teeth. You do not want to get gum disease and weak teeth. There is a sickle cell centre in Selhust, South london, England. They will be able to put you in touch with Dentist and doctors who will be able to help you. Good Luck
Reply:Some peoples mouths are not big enough for all their teeth, While you need to post Xrays of your teeth if you want a good answer to your question, in general when a dentist sees a wisdom tooth that is going to cause problems, the patient has 2 choices; Have it removed now, or wait 'til it causes problems. You need to see a dentist, if he does not get those teeth out, find another one.
Reply:Infected lower wisdom teeth are very dangerous. You can get something that's called Ludwig's Angina, basically you drown yourself in infection. Yuck
Reply:This tooth needs to be extracted. Its that straightforward.
Re Sickle cell anaemia, you must talk to a specialist first re this procedure and not allow a dentist to unwittingly extract a tooth unaware of your haemo situation.
I would email info@sicklecellsociety.org also.

Good luck.
