I'm scared of not knowing what needs to be done and what procedures the dentist will have to do to fix my teeth.
I have about 8 broken molars, at least 3 of them are not fixable, because the molar is completely gone. All four canine teeth started decaying at the gumline, and two surrounding teeth. I have one tooth in the front, that chipped in behind it and is decaying from the back. I don't know exactly how many cavities I have, but I'm sure its alot and I have to get them filled as well. And my teeth are starting to squish together, they are getting closer together, giving me uneven teeth %26amp; my jaw locks all the time. What procedures will I have to have done, to get my teeth fixed? how can I get over my fears?
What needs to be done to fix my teeth?
Look in your phone book for dentist, that use sedation dentistry. Go see him, and let them look at your teeth. Explain to them your fears and concerns. They will probably give you something the night before.
Also, realize the first visit they will not do anything, other than x-rays and an exam.
Reply:I had terrible problems with my teeth due to a sugar addiction. For years I was too embarrassed to go to the dentists, so they got worse %26amp; worse. In the end, I had to go to an emergency dentist as I was in so much pain. He took out a couple of teeth. It didnt hurt as they first inject a local anestic %26amp; sent me on my way. I plucked up the courage %26amp; made an appointment with my real dentist to finally get them sorted.
I was scared (more embaressed to be honest) but she filled the holes and they are fine now.
It sounds as though you just need to bite the bullet %26amp; do the same. Please don't be scared!
You will feel so so much better when you have been and will wonder why you left it for so long.
Remember they have seen it all and they are there to help you.
best of luck.
Reply:I know it's hard, but you have to get it taken care of. The longer you wait, the worse it'll get. The toughest part sometimes is that first visit because you have no idea what they'll say and you're kinda embarrassed. But, dentists see every kind of problem.
If you're worried about cost, you may want to get your teeth pulled and go for the dentures. All of that work will not be cheap. Luckily, we live in a pretty amazing time for dentistry. The stuff they can do is cool

Is there something a person can do when they got a bad filled tooth that is broken while waiting to get on...?

Is there something a person can do when they got a bad filled tooth that is broken while waiting to get on...?

Reply:There is a temporary filling kit you can buy in most stores, it's like a putty you make into a ball and fill in the broken area of the tooth it should help. don't use any other substance.
Reply:Not really. I've seen some stuff at pharmacy's, like a "do-it-yourself" temporary filling that you could maybe get and pack it with. Funny (well, not really!), was just at dentist 2 days ago....broke off the back of a tooth (next to 1st bottom molar) a couple months ago and just went to have, what the dentist called, a "fancy temporary" filling. I wasn't in pain, because many years ago I had a root canal there %26amp; the previous dentist didn't put a post in and "cap" it, which will have to be done.....a little $1,200. job....thus my temp filling......
Reply:as long as you don't have any infection you can get some temporary filling material from wal-mart. I don't remember the name of it, but it is by the toothache gel. It is just a temporary fix and should never be used in place of real dentistry.
Good luck! Oh, and don't forget to rinse your mouth with either salt water or listerine first!!
Reply:Rinse your mouth out with mouthwash and/or saltwater to keep infection down. If need be call and ask your dentist or whoever you made the appointment with what to do about it.
Reply:Most discount stores and drug stores have a temporary filling kit in their dental section. It is fairly inexpensive and will work until you get into the dentist.
The only down side to the temporary filling solution is you may have to replace it several times a day.

Ever broken or chipped a tooth? How?
YES. ridiculous ways:
Once eating a pretzel with large grains of salt. I bit down on the salt, and it actually chipped a small piece of enamel off of my front tooth.
Once I was so hungry and eating so fast that I didn't get the fork out of the way in time and still have a small chip in my front incisor.
Once I was eating a bagel and the bit down with a weak, already fractured back tooth. The bagel wasn't hard, but was chewy and therefore incompressible. So the tooth gave instead of the bagle.
So you really never know what can send you to the dentist.
Ever broken or chipped a tooth? How?
yeah twice... i bet a fork pretty hard thinking there was food on it lol. and i was at my friends house and this kid chris grabbed my legs out from under me and i hit my two front teeth on the cement.. it hurt.
Reply:Oh yeah, and it sucks. I've had 5 teeth pulled. My teeth are just fragile, runs in the family. Even though I brush alot. When I was pregnant with my son, I ate candy and chipped my back tooth.
Reply:JUST A COMMENT IN REFERENCE TO THIS QUESTION AND HOW EVERYONE CAN GET THEIR CHIPPED TEETH FIXED: If you have "chipped a front tooth," upper or lower, and it's not a really large piece missing, the dentist can file the edges down and most times remove the chipped area making it look just like it did prior to the accident. He may even adjust the tooth next to it to make them "even". I've had it done myself and mine was fairly large (kissed the concrete bike accident) and I've fixed other patients as well. It just depends on how severe the chip is and how much enamel this is to work with. You might want to ask your dentist about smoothing it down, since it's slightly more fragile with the chip there. Let's not all make a mad dash to the phone for an appointment, you can do this at your next cleaning appointment and there usually "won't be a charge" for it. But if you make an appointment for it to be done, there may be an office visit charge, I never charged a patient if they were there for some other procedure. You've waited this long, you can wait till next appointment. Good luck! Hope I've helped someone here today with this tid bit of information.
Reply:Ppl most often break or chip teeth while eating either with the food directly or with the eating utensil or the mug (bangs agaist the front teeth).
Also during brushing-the head of the toothbrush is hard and usually ppl use excessive force and can band it inot their teeth.
Trauma or contact sports is also another common method
Opening bottles with teeth is also a bad idea
Most common teeth are the front upper and lower teeth becuase of their position at the front of the mouth and because they are thinner than the other teeth
:-)
Reply:Both of my front teeth. Small little chips. One when I was in 2nd grade... playing on the bars spun around hit my face. lol
and the other when I was in 4th grade on a bottle of root beer. I was kidding around pretending to be drunk and hit the bottle on my tooth.

I broke my 2 front teeth and im having root canasl and having them bonded will the bonding hurt?
I will have gas, numbness and novicane
I broke my 2 front teeth and im having root canasl and having them bonded will the bonding hurt?
When having the root canals done your teeth could be a little sensitive after the numbing wears off but to have them bonded it will not hurt at all. The nerves of the teeth will be gone after having the root canals done so you will not have any feeling in the tooth. You should really have crowns done after having a root canal because your tooth will become brittle over time which will make it alot easier for you to break or even split the tooth. If you split the tooth then your only option would be to have the tooth extracted. You should talk with your dentist about having the crowns done instead of bonding. The crowns will be much stronger.
Reply:It will be excruciating
Reply:Bonding them no, root canal ouch yes!!
you'll need more drugs. than that
Reply:Wo i am glad I am not you! It is extremely painful!
Reply:Years ago, I had to get all four of my front teeth capped. Two of them had had root canals so they were more brittle. I had to get posts built into them before getting them capped. I'm surprised to hear that you're getting bonding work done instead since that's not really as permanent as capping. Maybe techniques have improved since then. I don't know.
Reply:After the root canals, the teeth will be non-vital and will not hurt during the restorative procedures. Once your dentist gives you the proper level of anesthetic, your root canal therapy should be painless as well. Good luck!
Reply:No, it is not very painful

I have to have all 4 wisdom teeth pulled, and I have several questions. Also wondering about healing time?
I'm TERRIFIED of dentists so please bear with me, sorry it's so long!
I guess I'm wondering opinions of when I should schedule the wisdom tooth surgery for? I go in April 3rd(?) for the first part of the fillings, have to go in again, and I have a concert May 17%26amp;18 which I want to be completely healed for. I want to get it done before the concert, but was wondering when would be best? Do I need to take off class because of pain/swelling/medications? Does there need to be a gap between fillings and wisdom tooth surgery?
I have one wisdom tooth that needs to be broken while it's in my jaw and taken out in three parts, is this as bad as it sounds?
And both of my bottom wisdom teeth are somewhat near the nerve and I was warned I may (slim but may) loose feeling because of it, any ideas how much of a chance there is? Mainly the highest risk one is the same that needs broken
Sorry this is long, but I'm really nervous and don't know about healing time and meds...
Thanks ahead of time!

Why not wait until summer break? Reschedule for June and save the worry.
Reply:heres my story. i got all 4 taken out on a thursday. the bottom 2 had already come through and the top two were about 1/2 way out so they had to cut the top a bit. by the way, i chose to be awake for the procedure. first the put some blue crap on my gums to numb them for some shots, then they put in a bunch of shots around my gums to numb the whole area so i was awake for the whole thing. i had NO SWELLING at all.pain was fairly minimal. besides that night , the only time it hurt was when i was eating and that lasted for about 4 or 5 days total.the first 2 days consisted of eating icecream and smoothies. then after that i upgraded to pasta and a week later i was able to eat most anything.if you want to be fine by the concert i would schedule it no more than 2 weeks beofre the concert as everybody reacts differenlty. i knew a girl that ended up looking like a chipmunk for a week afterwards. if you can stand it, opt to do it like me and not use anesthesia but if not then its fine. breaking the tooth wont really matter cause you wont be able to feel it. i dont know how much of a chance you have of losing feeling. obviously the doctors think its slim. but it needs to be done so hope for the best and expect the worst.
Reply:I would bring a calendar to your next visit to your dentist office and voice your concerns about schedule and timing. Especially about the need for the gap between fillings and wisdom tooth surgery.
Ok, onto the wisdom teeth. I had 4 removed in 1 visit. I was under general anesthesia, woke after the work was done, and had a friend drive me home - I slept the rest of the day. I had prescriptions for pain and infection plus instructions to drink much water. I only took the antibiotics and never took anything for the pain. There was no swelling either. During this time I was also attending class full-time and except for the first couple days I had no problem concentrating.
While all my wisdom teeth were whole unlike your one tooth that needs to be broken and removed, I still think the process of breaking and removing it to be pretty routine. This is a very old practice of breaking the teeth for removal - I would think they had solved issues.
As for the bottom wisdom teeth being near the nerve with the possible loss of feeling, that is a valid concern. I know it's asking for work, but why not get a second opinion? Of course, it means a possible delay but even so, you could still go forward with your current dentist while being armed with information - making you feel more comfortable.
I wish you the best of luck. I know I didn't answer some of the questions but I think people who need 3-4 wisdom teeth addressed are pretty rare.
Reply:I can understand your feelings about dentists, who the hell does like going to the dentist? But this really isn't a big deal as long as you take care of the empty sockets once the teeth are gone.
Depending on the route you take with the extraction ( novocaine or knock -you -out happy gas) you might not even know that it happened!! I recently had two of mine extracted and the worst part was the shots of novocaine. Once you are numb though, it's like that part of your mouth doesn't even exist.
You absolutely must take care of your wounds afterwards. No smoking, soft liquidy foods only, no drinking through a straw, no anything that requires a puckering or sucking action as you can stop it from clotting and you will end up with dry socket(s). Not something that you want to experience, very painfull. One of mine also had to be broken but I didn't even notice. Had he not told me, I wouldn't have even known.
As for healing time; if you take good care you should be completely healed in a couple of weeks max. I used only aleve for the pain and it worked just fine. The dentist is going to tell you all of this stuff but hopefully this response will ease your mind a little bit beforehand. Your mouth is going to feel so much more comfortable when its all over with, trust me!
Hope I was helpful!!
Reply:First, having an impacted wisdom tooth that is already diagnosed as a possible problem tooth with regard to injuring the jaw nerve when extracted, I would hope you are having an Oral Surgeon perform that extraction. As far as healing time, there is one hard fact regarding that, no matter it be one tooth or several, the healing time will be between five and six months..Now don't connect the healing time with pain and or discomfort. You should be free of even the slightest pain or discomfort within a day or two or a week at most and I'm referring to only a small level of discomfort. The following months however is when the sockets complete their healing and the gums and bone in those areas undergo changes in size and shape, which you will not feel happening. Until that takes place complete healing hasn't been achieved. As for discomfort during the extraction procedures, you should be pain free, especially if your given complete anesthesia. If not you will feel pressure being exerted as the teeth are removed but pain should not be a factor. Following the procedures your dental professional will no doubt put you on a round of antibiotics and give you an Rx for pain control. You should do very well. The quicker you get the work done the sooner you will heal.

Cap or pull top 4 front teeth?
My 23month old daughter has bad decay on her top 4 front teeth--3 of 4 have broken down and of those 3, 2 are broken down to barely past gumline and 1 of those 3 is black (the other 2 barely past gumline are turning darkly discolored, too). The other one is more beige in color with the top decay eroding the enamel. She also needs crowns on top 2 molars and fillings on bottom 2 molars. I feel so bad for her! She does not ever have junk food, but my mom and sister had lots of dental work done, so dentist said could be hereditary or the night nursing (I wouldn't have done that if it wasn't recommended by another mom I work with who didn't have probs with her son's teeth and she bf til he was 3 and didn't even brush his teeth!). What do you recommend? Cap or Pull? Or a combo of the diff. teeth? I'm worried about infection/abcess or speech problems either way. Any advice?
Cap or pull top 4 front teeth?
A pediatric dentist would provide you with the best answer. Either way, she will have to have anesthesia/sedation for this and MAKE SURE the dentist will do whatever you decide IN A HOSPITAL and not in his office. She needs to be closely monitored during the procedure by people trained in sedating children. Porcelain caps/crowns would be the best cosmetic result but also the most expensive. It will be hard for her to eat/talk with no front teeth so I would pick the silver ones if the porcelain ones are too expensive. I have seen them use porcelain veneers just on the front of the silver ones so she doesn't look like she is wearing a grille.
You are right to be worried about infection/abscess so try to get it done as soon as possible. It is also most likely painful. When I see kids like this it breaks my heart--I know how bad one tooth ache feels. Don't be too hard on yourself. Live and learn.
It is usually caused by milk (human or otherwise) or juice sitting on the teeth for extended periods. Always brush her teeth (or at least wipe them off with a wet washcloth) after eating or drinking anything except plain water. This should start as soon as a baby gets her first tooth. Even healthy foods contain substances that can break down tooth enamel and cause cavities. It is even more important if there is a family history of weak tooth enamel. Make sure she drinks a fluoridated water supply or takes a fluoride supplement if your water is not fluoridated. You can get a prescription for this from your doctor or dentist.
Reply:Take her to a dentist and ask him/her what they suggest.
Reply:Cap them if you can afford it.
Reply:cap but white not silver
Reply:If you decide to pull her teeth, she will be without those teeth until she would normally cut them which is about 4 years down the road. They sound so badly decayed, the dentist may not be able to save them anyway to cap them. There has to be a health pulp for the tooth to live when the teeth are capped. If some of the teeth are down to the gumline, they may already be beyond saving and will have to be extracted.
Reply:my friends daughter had the same problem and they had them pulled. I now it sucks but they will grow back in a few years and her dentist said the problem usually goes away by the time they get their adult teeth in
Reply:Cap!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness please do not pull that child's teeth out!!! She will have the hardest time ever in school. Think of all the names she will be called. Please have a heart.
Reply:what had the dentist suggested is the best rout to take I myself would get my babies teeth pulled out so that she won't look like she is a ghetto baby. Like she is going to play in the videos on BET please pull the teeth out really they will grow back after all they are baby teeth.
Reply:I'm sorry to be negative, but it could be said that you have been neglectful in not taking your baby to a dentist as soon as you noticed decay. Her teeth didn't get like that over night. Take her to the dentist asap and let them decide what is best for your child.
****Well that's much different! Sorry for assuming. I've had many foster children that come to me with such horrible decay that I'm very sensitive to the issue.
I would definitely make a complaint against the dentist who told you that!
My dentist saw my children as soon as they started getting teeth. He gave me a heads-up on do's %26amp; don'ts.
Take the new dentists advice. Don't pull unless you have to.
Reply:When we adopted one of our kids, she had much of the same problem. Fortunately, she did have enough of her top front left to cap but they were badly decayed. If the dentist thinks there is enough left, capping would probably be best. That's what they were able to do with our daughter's top teeth. She hasn't had any speech problems and with the caps she has a much prettier smile while we wait for them to come out and her adult teeth to come in. Incidentally, she was about the same age as your daughter when we had this done. She's almost 6 now. Our son had one of his pulled because it was so bad, but it was a back tooth so it hasn't been too bad. The dentist had to put in a spacer to hold the space until his adult tooth comes in to prevent the other teeth from moving into that spot. That was better than leaving it in because it always hurt him so badly. No real problems to speak of except that, of course, he can't have anything sticky to eat at all because it will out the spacer. Good luck!
Reply:I run a orthodontic laboratory and my suggestion would be to seek dental advice NOW! Do not let this go....If she has ANY pain you need to extract the decayed teeth right Now. Your child could possibly die from infection from a decayed tooth that has spread beyond the gingival margin.
Reply:i say cap. if your kid goes through the beginning of her life different than the rest of her peers (missing teeth) she might begin to feel different and that could affect her mental development. it is very important at that age to feel acepted. there is a strong correlation with acceptance at a young age and having healthy adult relationships later in life.
Reply:that is the worst case scenario I have every heard.
Reply:pulling a childs baby teeth before they are ready to come out can lead to them needing braces in a bad way later in life and speech problems while they are out if the dentist caps them he will make sure there is no infection and probably give her an antibiotic my cousinhad to have all of her baby teeth capped and all was well with her and her grown up teeth came in beautifully she never had any infection after the capping but it looked awful because back then they did caps in silver instead of clear (she is 23 now) my father had custody of her and she had this done right after moving in withus and she never complained of it being painful during or after the procedure but she did complain of toothaches when she moved in with us
Reply:My son was almost 3 when i took him to his dentist and his 3 front teeth was getting bad so they capped them. but here in the past few months all of his caps came off and they are the back they way they were. we wasted money on getting them capped and it didnt do any good im not takeing him back to the dentist to get them capped over again because i know it wont do any good. i would ask her dentist about what is best for her. but my opinion is that their teeth are going to fall out here pretty soon. i hope i was of some help. good luck.

Help! My rabbit broke his front tooth!?
I came into my room and found my rabbit was acting wierd so I picked him up and found a bloody mouth and a broken tooth, only one tooth fell off from the front but my rabbit is eating and moving around better now.
I put cold water on the tooth and super blue green alge.
Should I be worried about an infection? I know the tooth will grow back because I read rabbit teeth don't stop growing.
Also my friends rabbit ate some onions peices by mistake is that ok can it die or get sick? her rabbit has been fine ever since eating the onions, cause I know onions are bad for all pets.

Best thing to do is take your rabbit to a vet. yes, their teeth are constantly growing, but rabbits are prone to get abscesses from injuries and you definitely don't want that.
Regarding onions - they are presumed to be toxic to rabbits so it is better to not feed them. If your friend's rabbit ate it and didn't get sick, I'd say your friend was lucky.

Reply:Call a vet and ask
Reply:well oviosly it gonna cause infection you need to take him to the vet a soon as possible bc that can kill him. u should have went to the vet first and get some meds be it would help with the pain and yes the tooth will gorow back just giv it time.
Reply:Dinner time i heard rabbit taste good
Reply:yeah you need to take it to the vet, and when someone loses a teeth i heard you are supposed to put it in a cup of milk until you go to the doctor and then they can put it back in for you or something, but you should take it to the vet and read up on what rabbits can and can;t eat before you accidently kill your rabbit/
Reply:I had a guinea pig who broke his teeth (trying to bully his brothers) seeing as how rabbits and guinea pigas are similar, I thought I could help. I wouldn't be worried about infection. What I did was boil the water, putting salt in it. Then I let the water cool. Not a lot of salt though but just enouigh to help with their dietary requirements and keep germs at bay. You could just add salt to warm water and let it cool (quiker and easier) I also chopped the food up in to smaller, easier to manage pieces until he got better. This seemed to speed the healing process(since he wasn't chewing as much) and worked weel all the same. Good Luck! Sorry about your bunny!
As for the onion bit... I've never been told by any vet that onions are bad for animals. I had a guinea pig (one of several in my life) who actually liked onions and ate them often. They shoudln't hurt. THey still had good stuff in them which I'm sure contributes to their health.
Reply:The tooth will grow back and unless there's a cut that won't heal up,
I wouldn't waste my money on a vet. Generally vets know nothing about rabbits.
