Do you think this warrants a dentist visit? My son just took a fall and one of his front teeth shifted inward?

when his mouth hit. his gums are a little swollen and there is a little blood but not much and the tooth didn't break off in any place. I am babysitting several children so I can't run to the dentist right now anyway, just thought maybe you've had a similiar situation. Thankyou!!

i had a similar one, my daughter fell and hit her tooth. I didnt go to the dentist but later on asked him about it and he said since it was a baby one they wouldnt have done anything anyways unless pain was invovled or if infection happen they could pull it. My daughter had even chipped it. If its a permanent then call the dentist office to see.
Reply:yes take him
Reply:Yeah i would take him straight to a dentist
Reply:yes call the dentist right away - you might not be able to bring him right now but definitely make an appt to bring him asap
Reply:Of take him to the dentist. Are you qualified to see how much damage was done?
Reply:take the kid to the dentist
Reply:Yes, definitely.
Reply:It never hurts to call your dentist first to find out whether it warrants a visit or not.
Reply:YES. The damage may have already been done, but it is possible you can put the tooth back in its socket and not lose it. You may well have to do a root canal.

The dentist is your best option.

Edit - even if it is a baby tooth, take him to the dentist. They probably won't do a root canal on a baby tooth, but those teeth are important for establishing proper spacing for the adult tooth that will follow. You only have to take care of the teeth you need...that would be all of them.
Reply:Make time to go to the dentist if it is his/her permanent teeth.
Reply:i wouldnt, i think he'll be fine
Reply:i think that you should take him to the dentist, but why are you taking care of some many children if you cant handle it.
Reply:Well, its possible the tooth broke below the gum and if you don't take him soon, it could just die if not taken care of.
Reply:Get him to a dentist at your first opportunity. Even if it is not a permanent tooth he could still have done some damge that could effect him later. Err on the side of caution...
Reply:As soon as you get a chance take him to see a dentist, My niece did that when she was younger and they ended up putting a partial in her mouth because her space for her perminent teeth was closing in! Just because you can't see a part of the teeth chipped it could be only seen by X-rays!!! Hope everything goes well!
Reply:Yes, it probably warrents a dentist visit. My son dented in his two front baby teeth on his sister's head and had to have them pulled early. If the tooth is displaced it generally means substantial damage.
Reply:my 2 year old fell, there was a little black spot on the bottom corner of his front tooth, didn't seem to bother him we took him for a regular check up a few months later, they pulled the tooth, seems it was dead ??

If tooth is just bend in, I'm sure a dentist will take lots of monety to strighten, if it is a baby tooth, it's gonna fall out anyway
Reply:I would call the dentist and explain what happened. Best to hear from him if you should take your son in or not.
Reply:I think that you should call your Dentists for her/his advice.
Reply:How old is he. Either way, the tooth has visibly shifted. It might have damaged something within his gums. Call to make an appointment, and request their opinion on the phone. You can also go to web MD type of on-line sites.
Reply:How old is he? If he's pretty young and his teeth are not permanent, unless he complains, things will probably work themselves out. If he's older and on a second set of teeth, you probably should make the trip.
Reply:my son hit his mouth going for a basket ball when he was about 8 years old, I took him to the school dentist a couple of days later and they x-rayed it just to rule out that his teeth hadn't cracked or fractured anywhere.
Reply:go to the dentist for sure and make sure all is well and keep up with any checkups they may want to see him for since his tooth has been visibly knocked loose they will most likely tell you to keep him on a soft food diet. If he is at an age where it will come out soon anyway do not worry too much , I do not think they will give braces.
Reply:Oh My Gosh!

Just think, that fall could have done plenty worse to him.

Thankfully, it doesn't appear to be serious to us amateurs but who knows? We could be wrong.

Yes. It is a very good, smart idea to go see a dentist.

A good parent who really cares would.

A good dentist can do an X-Ray and has the experience to best decide what really is and is not serious.

There could be a crack or break beneath the gum line which you aren't noticing.
Reply:If its a baby tooth it probably wont matter, but the dr may want to pull it so its not uncomfy for your son. I would just call and ask to speak w/ someone about it, they can let you know if they feel they should see him right away or if its something that can wait
Reply:I just had an incident with a softball...got hit in the mouth and beside getting stitches on my lip my teeth were pushed into my gums...it is very painful...and yes you would need to take him to the dentist....i am going to have to have root canals on those teeth that are in my gum..if it's not taken care of now it could cause problems later down years from now..The dentist will not be able to do anything now while the gums are swollen but they can give him antibotics to keep it from infections...
Reply:My daughter caught a swing in the mouth after falling out of it. All of her front teeth were still in place but loose and in unusual positions. A trip to the dentist was very necessary. The damage could have lasted a life time. Call the dentist, ask him what you should do. Do it now !
Reply:yes asap
