I work as a waitress am unemployed no insurance. My front tooth broke in half. What to do now ?

I went to a clinic that was on a sliding fee seemed great in the beginning exrays exam ect. The my first visit was a month away and it was not to fix my broken tooth. They pulled a tooth I am sure could have been saved. When I left the appointment The computer was down and I have heard nothing since. I am not complaining about this as I do not want this kind of dentistry. I want my teeth. The dentist was unprofessional and quit mean. No insurance means no saving your teeth he said. I am resourced out and its getting worse . My sister and I had a cleaning business we worked for two years and at the same time I broke my tooth she lost her car so we now are out our business we worked at so hard and put all resources into for the last two years. I feel in dire straights with my life . Please help me with giving me some advise on what you would do . Thanks

Look up the dental licensing board for your state and see if there is a contact number. Sometimes dentists, doctors and others do pro-bono work (free) for people in your situation. What that dentist said to you was horrible. It sucks to not have insurance in America, you are just really screwed when something happens.

As a last resort, I'd write to some of those talk shows that do shows featuring dental work/makeovers because if they decide to feature you, you get the work for free. See if a regular dentist can offer you a financing plan. Don't let it go, your teeth will only get worse and then what?

Good luck, I feel for your situation, I've been there.
Reply:Get a loan from family or friends .
Reply:Usually dental schools in your area will do low cost or free dental work so the upcoming dental doctors can learn their trade. Find a university near you that has a dental school and see what the cost is to you. I have done it here in NYC and when I didn't have insurance it really saved my life!! The students are monitored by professors and they do almost any kind of work. Check it out and good luck to you!!
Reply:Look into your local county indigent health care program, you may qualify for government assistance for your medical care.

Find out if there is a free clinic in your area associated with a medical school or large academic medical center, it might provide you a gateway to treatment.
Reply:Girl,,,,,,,,,,, I think what everyone needs to give you is NOT AND ANSWER but Prayer....Goodness Grief!!!!

Talking about bad luck!!!

See if you can go to your local S.Services and ask if they can give you government assistance. I know a friend that has a waitress job and she went to apply, and they helped her..

Good Luck!!!!

oh yeah if not don't worry about it...Trust me my front tooth is chipped also and I told everyone that i was gonna get it fixed, and they where like why? You look cute like that...lol..(I'm still getting fixed because I need braces. My dentist said sooo)
Reply:I didn't have insurance for about 9 years and all of my teeth ended up with cavities and about 10 broke. There was really nothing I could do. I went to a dental college which is much cheaper than a private dentist and it was still going to be about $500-900 each for the root canals and crowns I needed. A dental implant isn't covered by insurance anyway and that's about $1000. My only option was to have 6 teeth pulled so that the pain would stop because I was popping Vicodin constantly because they hurt so bad. The Vicodin didn't even work and I had to illegally buy some Oxycontin to kill the pain of the exposed nerves. It cost about $90 per tooth for the extractions at the dental college I went to.

If you can't get Medicaid then you have to pay or go to one of those sliding scale places (not all are bad). I was finally able to find insurance which is similar to Medicaid but for people who are not quite eligible for Medicaid. It's something they offer here in NY and it's called HealthPlus. They cover most of my dental bills 100% now so I can get the root canals. You need to find out if there is something like that where you live. It would be the insurance for 'poor' people who are not quite 'poor enough' for Medicaid. The down side is that it takes at least 90 days to be approved and it's a long time to wait if you have tooth pain.

I am 'unemployed' on paper and the money I make off the books is no where near enough to pay for trips to the dentist (I can barely pay rent). I was only ineligible for Medicaid because I have a lease in my name yet no way to 'prove' how I pay rent. I could not get anyone to write a letter for me saying that they support me financially so I was denied Medicaid because it looked like fraud or something.
Reply:well, if it cannot be bonded, then they would want to crown it. you can get a targis crown, which is a little cheaper than porcelain over gold. but, there is something called a Maryland bridge which is only $200 here. it is probably a lot more in the states. my best suggestion is if you live near mexico, go there. but, still avoid toxic materials like porcelain over metal (the metal is nickel, which is cancer causing).

For non-biting teeth (teeth in or near the front, the dentist can usually use what is called a Maryland bridge, provided the adjacent teeth are in good shape and do not have crowns. This bridge is fixed, but does not require teeth to be ground and crowned.
