Cap or pull top 4 front teeth?

My 23month old daughter has bad decay on her top 4 front teeth--3 of 4 have broken down and of those 3, 2 are broken down to barely past gumline and 1 of those 3 is black (the other 2 barely past gumline are turning darkly discolored, too). The other one is more beige in color with the top decay eroding the enamel. She also needs crowns on top 2 molars and fillings on bottom 2 molars. I feel so bad for her! She does not ever have junk food, but my mom and sister had lots of dental work done, so dentist said could be hereditary or the night nursing (I wouldn't have done that if it wasn't recommended by another mom I work with who didn't have probs with her son's teeth and she bf til he was 3 and didn't even brush his teeth!). What do you recommend? Cap or Pull? Or a combo of the diff. teeth? I'm worried about infection/abcess or speech problems either way. Any advice?

Cap or pull top 4 front teeth?
A pediatric dentist would provide you with the best answer. Either way, she will have to have anesthesia/sedation for this and MAKE SURE the dentist will do whatever you decide IN A HOSPITAL and not in his office. She needs to be closely monitored during the procedure by people trained in sedating children. Porcelain caps/crowns would be the best cosmetic result but also the most expensive. It will be hard for her to eat/talk with no front teeth so I would pick the silver ones if the porcelain ones are too expensive. I have seen them use porcelain veneers just on the front of the silver ones so she doesn't look like she is wearing a grille.

You are right to be worried about infection/abscess so try to get it done as soon as possible. It is also most likely painful. When I see kids like this it breaks my heart--I know how bad one tooth ache feels. Don't be too hard on yourself. Live and learn.

It is usually caused by milk (human or otherwise) or juice sitting on the teeth for extended periods. Always brush her teeth (or at least wipe them off with a wet washcloth) after eating or drinking anything except plain water. This should start as soon as a baby gets her first tooth. Even healthy foods contain substances that can break down tooth enamel and cause cavities. It is even more important if there is a family history of weak tooth enamel. Make sure she drinks a fluoridated water supply or takes a fluoride supplement if your water is not fluoridated. You can get a prescription for this from your doctor or dentist.
Reply:Take her to a dentist and ask him/her what they suggest.
Reply:Cap them if you can afford it.
Reply:cap but white not silver
Reply:If you decide to pull her teeth, she will be without those teeth until she would normally cut them which is about 4 years down the road. They sound so badly decayed, the dentist may not be able to save them anyway to cap them. There has to be a health pulp for the tooth to live when the teeth are capped. If some of the teeth are down to the gumline, they may already be beyond saving and will have to be extracted.
Reply:my friends daughter had the same problem and they had them pulled. I now it sucks but they will grow back in a few years and her dentist said the problem usually goes away by the time they get their adult teeth in
Reply:Cap!!!!!!!!!! Oh my goodness please do not pull that child's teeth out!!! She will have the hardest time ever in school. Think of all the names she will be called. Please have a heart.
Reply:what had the dentist suggested is the best rout to take I myself would get my babies teeth pulled out so that she won't look like she is a ghetto baby. Like she is going to play in the videos on BET please pull the teeth out really they will grow back after all they are baby teeth.
Reply:I'm sorry to be negative, but it could be said that you have been neglectful in not taking your baby to a dentist as soon as you noticed decay. Her teeth didn't get like that over night. Take her to the dentist asap and let them decide what is best for your child.

****Well that's much different! Sorry for assuming. I've had many foster children that come to me with such horrible decay that I'm very sensitive to the issue.

I would definitely make a complaint against the dentist who told you that!

My dentist saw my children as soon as they started getting teeth. He gave me a heads-up on do's %26amp; don'ts.

Take the new dentists advice. Don't pull unless you have to.
Reply:When we adopted one of our kids, she had much of the same problem. Fortunately, she did have enough of her top front left to cap but they were badly decayed. If the dentist thinks there is enough left, capping would probably be best. That's what they were able to do with our daughter's top teeth. She hasn't had any speech problems and with the caps she has a much prettier smile while we wait for them to come out and her adult teeth to come in. Incidentally, she was about the same age as your daughter when we had this done. She's almost 6 now. Our son had one of his pulled because it was so bad, but it was a back tooth so it hasn't been too bad. The dentist had to put in a spacer to hold the space until his adult tooth comes in to prevent the other teeth from moving into that spot. That was better than leaving it in because it always hurt him so badly. No real problems to speak of except that, of course, he can't have anything sticky to eat at all because it will out the spacer. Good luck!
Reply:I run a orthodontic laboratory and my suggestion would be to seek dental advice NOW! Do not let this go....If she has ANY pain you need to extract the decayed teeth right Now. Your child could possibly die from infection from a decayed tooth that has spread beyond the gingival margin.
Reply:i say cap. if your kid goes through the beginning of her life different than the rest of her peers (missing teeth) she might begin to feel different and that could affect her mental development. it is very important at that age to feel acepted. there is a strong correlation with acceptance at a young age and having healthy adult relationships later in life.
Reply:that is the worst case scenario I have every heard.
Reply:pulling a childs baby teeth before they are ready to come out can lead to them needing braces in a bad way later in life and speech problems while they are out if the dentist caps them he will make sure there is no infection and probably give her an antibiotic my cousinhad to have all of her baby teeth capped and all was well with her and her grown up teeth came in beautifully she never had any infection after the capping but it looked awful because back then they did caps in silver instead of clear (she is 23 now) my father had custody of her and she had this done right after moving in withus and she never complained of it being painful during or after the procedure but she did complain of toothaches when she moved in with us
Reply:My son was almost 3 when i took him to his dentist and his 3 front teeth was getting bad so they capped them. but here in the past few months all of his caps came off and they are the back they way they were. we wasted money on getting them capped and it didnt do any good im not takeing him back to the dentist to get them capped over again because i know it wont do any good. i would ask her dentist about what is best for her. but my opinion is that their teeth are going to fall out here pretty soon. i hope i was of some help. good luck.

Help! My rabbit broke his front tooth!?

I came into my room and found my rabbit was acting wierd so I picked him up and found a bloody mouth and a broken tooth, only one tooth fell off from the front but my rabbit is eating and moving around better now.

I put cold water on the tooth and super blue green alge.

Should I be worried about an infection? I know the tooth will grow back because I read rabbit teeth don't stop growing.

Also my friends rabbit ate some onions peices by mistake is that ok can it die or get sick? her rabbit has been fine ever since eating the onions, cause I know onions are bad for all pets.

Help! My rabbit broke his front tooth!?
Best thing to do is take your rabbit to a vet. yes, their teeth are constantly growing, but rabbits are prone to get abscesses from injuries and you definitely don't want that.

Regarding onions - they are presumed to be toxic to rabbits so it is better to not feed them. If your friend's rabbit ate it and didn't get sick, I'd say your friend was lucky.

Pls see links below for information about caring for your bunny
Reply:Call a vet and ask
Reply:well oviosly it gonna cause infection you need to take him to the vet a soon as possible bc that can kill him. u should have went to the vet first and get some meds be it would help with the pain and yes the tooth will gorow back just giv it time.
Reply:Dinner time i heard rabbit taste good
Reply:yeah you need to take it to the vet, and when someone loses a teeth i heard you are supposed to put it in a cup of milk until you go to the doctor and then they can put it back in for you or something, but you should take it to the vet and read up on what rabbits can and can;t eat before you accidently kill your rabbit/
Reply:I had a guinea pig who broke his teeth (trying to bully his brothers) seeing as how rabbits and guinea pigas are similar, I thought I could help. I wouldn't be worried about infection. What I did was boil the water, putting salt in it. Then I let the water cool. Not a lot of salt though but just enouigh to help with their dietary requirements and keep germs at bay. You could just add salt to warm water and let it cool (quiker and easier) I also chopped the food up in to smaller, easier to manage pieces until he got better. This seemed to speed the healing process(since he wasn't chewing as much) and worked weel all the same. Good Luck! Sorry about your bunny!

As for the onion bit... I've never been told by any vet that onions are bad for animals. I had a guinea pig (one of several in my life) who actually liked onions and ate them often. They shoudln't hurt. THey still had good stuff in them which I'm sure contributes to their health.
Reply:The tooth will grow back and unless there's a cut that won't heal up,

I wouldn't waste my money on a vet. Generally vets know nothing about rabbits.

How much does it cost to extract a wisdom tooth that has broken at the gumline?

I feel that a general anesthetic will be required, we have no dental insurance, and would also like info on the estimated recovery time expected. Any info from a qualified professional or someone who has had this work done will be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

How much does it cost to extract a wisdom tooth that has broken at the gumline?
My boyfriend just had one pulled that had to be broken into three pieces and was below the gum line, with local anesthetic, and it was about $140. Obviously if general anesthetic is required it will up the cost a bit.

He's still having some trouble with after 5 days, but that's because it got infected. Otherwise, people are generally feeling fine after about two days.
Reply:I had a wisdom tooth removed last week and it took about a week to heal. I didn't have insurance either, but I did get a dental discount plan that saved about 40%.

Don't go to a dentist without getting a discount!!!! This is the company I used, and its a hell of a deal compared to paying full price.

I have been sick since 2001, now my teeth are just breaking off. I don't have dental insurance.?

I have some serious vitamin and mineral deficiencies... Calcium and vitamin D are the most deficient. I take a ton of supplements. yet this problem has gotten to the point where I can't eat the way I need to be eating. I have talked to my doctors about this and finding a dentist who is both patient and not going to cost me 20, 000 bucks... to have my mouth taken care of.... any suggestions would be most helpful ... SERIOUS ANSWERS ONLY%26gt;

I have been sick since 2001, now my teeth are just breaking off. I don't have dental insurance.?
This is my suggestion, pray to the living God that he is going to order everything regarding your tooth situation. Why not try to go to some christian foundation if you know some near to your place, Ministers, Pastors. Because there are mission agencies that there ministries is to go out to the communities for dental mission.
Reply:the dentist drilled holes in my teeth.. your wholes must have hurt Report It

Reply:i think you have to talk with your dentist, not all people are able to put implants, some have to use the ones that are just removable, you use them during the day and remove them at night.
Reply:Unfortunately, the world revolves around the almighty buck. And since a dental office is EXTREMELY expensive to run, dentists have to watch their bottom line. So you get what you can afford. You can get everything from $2000 extractions and dentures to $40,000 implants, crowns and inlays/onlays. You obviously need a complete examination and a thorough treatment plan.
Reply:Seriously, seek some kind of free or low-cost healthcare. Research your area to find out what's available near you (for the dental work, see if there's a dental school in your area). It may not be top-notch medical treatment, but if your teeth are breaking off and you have that big of a nutrition problem, any help is going to be better than nothing at all. Also, see what may be available through your employer, if applicable. Have perseverance in your search; you deserve to get the treatment you need!

Help please. My tooth broke.?

One of my teeth in the back on the upper right side of my mouth (the very last tooth to be exact...no it's not wisdom) broke ALMOST completely weeks ago....yeah I know I'm late. It had broken before but only in very little pieces and it just so happened that one day I was eating something and most of it broke. Now here's where I got scared. When it broke, part of the gum surrounding it was like hanging....not like THAT much, just a little part. I'm stupid so I didn't tell anyone and here I am weeks later getting more worried because when I feel it with my tongue now, the gum feels so weird. It's not hanging anymore, it just feels like it sticked back and formed a lump in the middle of the broken tooth (hard to explain). I'm scared to look at it in the mirror (because I might find something horrifying) and I have a dentist appointment on Friday but I'm scared she'll be like "I'm sorry, you'll need surgery" or "I'm sorry, you have mouth cancer". What do you think it could be?

Help please. My tooth broke.?
You broke a tooth and you'll probably be sent for a root canal to keep it from getting infected. The tooth being broken off really isn't that critical since it's a back tooth. The dentist may want to make more money and tell you that you need surgery, but with a root canal, you really don't need to do anything else.
Reply:you might need your nerves drilled out. It's very painful and traumatic. The memory will haunt you for the rest of your life.
Reply:Don't worry about it... mouth cancer is quite rare... but definitely keep the dentist appointment, you need to get that thing fixed.
Reply:better safe than sorry.

I have a partial of the four front top teeth and it just broke. Will a bridge work?

I went to the dentist and he temporarily fixed it but said I cannot eat with them in. He said it would cost 150 dollars to bring them back to the way they were. I asked about a bridge and he said that since I am missing all four top front teeth that the gap is probably to big to go that route. I just ned another opinion on this. Implants are out because it is way out of what I can afford to do.

I have a partial of the four front top teeth and it just broke. Will a bridge work?
if you have 4 anterior(front) teeth missing, the only way it would be recommended to get a bridge would be if you had several teeth on both sides prepped for support. without several teeth being prepped you would run the risk of the bridge moving upward and popping it right out. i have been a technician for 15 years and make crowns, bridges etc for a living. and while i have seen bridges like you want, there are also other factors that only your dentist would know. plus, the dentist would make alot of money by you getting a bridge, so the fact that he advised against it tells me there is a good reason.
Reply:i would defently go for the bridge and it realy depends on you pain tollerance because i fell off of my bike a few years ago

and totaly lost my front 3 teeth and i got implants when i got them i could not eat for a week i ate applesause threw a straw
Reply:you should get a crown they make a tooth (i dont know what they make oit out of)

then they put it on top of the broken tooth

i don tknow how much it cost though
Reply:Why not get a new one? See if he will put the repair cost towards the fee for a new one.. since it will only be a temporary fix... Did he make it for you originally and within the last year? If so, the repair should be no charge (at least it would be in our office).

You may want to consult with a prosthodontist to see what options you have with this, since they specialize in prosthetics...

Best of luck to you.

:)
Reply:Basically, you're talking about at least a 6 unit bridge. Most likely they would have to make it 8 units, (2 abutment teeth on either side of the 4 missing) in order to support 4 missing teeth. That's just too large of a span for a bridge and will do nothing but compromise the abutment teeth. Either way, the cost is prohibitive. Acrylic partials are "party teeth." Meaning, they are just for show and not something you can have in your mouth when eating. The reason for this is they are not reinforced with metal and thus will break very easy. Comparing costs to possible options, you will be best served by a metal partial. It has acrylic, but the palate will be reinforced and therefore, less likely to break. You can eat with this type of partial in. Call around for prices in your area as they will vary. Make sure you go to a high quality restorative dentist or prosthodontist. Remember, you get what you pay for. Going the cheapest route is most likely the result of low quality materials and workmanship. Your old partial has been temporarily fixed. This has bought you some time to do your research.

What can I take for a tooth that is broken and very painful?

Go to the Emergency Room. They'll give you pain killers and antibiotics. Make an appointment with a dentist first thing in the morning.

What can I take for a tooth that is broken and very painful?
While you are waiting for the dentist to see you, you can put a whole clove in your mouth as a natural harmless pain reliever. Yes, those black pointy things that Grandma used to insert when she baked a ham. Who knew?

Good luck!
Reply:You should use clove oil not a whole clove. You can apply the clove oil with a q-tip. Go see your dentist as soon as you can because the clove oil is just temporary. You will have to keep applying it because the pain will come back. Good Luck and I hope that you feel better soon.

crest whiting strips.

what he said ^^^
Reply:lol spray paint.. hehe the thing that will make ur teeth white is just brushing them with crest and also flossing.. make sure that u get a toothpaste that has the whitening in it and that should help.. ;)
Reply:use hydrogen peroxide as directed, for mouth.
Reply:crest white strips really work
Reply:Crest Whitestrips.. they really work. I thought they wouldn't.

But be warned though, my teeth are now sensitive because of them, but it's not because of it taking off the enamel, it's more like on the tiny tubules something.. so I have to buy myself Sensodyne or Sooth Rx to brush my teeth.. then I could put on the whitestrips.

But I usually put on the whitestrips first before brushing. that's a must or else suffer what whitestrips will make you.

I have a wire behind my bottom row of teeth and it broke. Now what?

I cut off the part that broke off and the wire left is cutting my tongue. The other side is still in very securely and I can't get it loose. Is there a way to get it out?

I have a wire behind my bottom row of teeth and it broke. Now what?
My guess is they put it on with some pretty strong permanent cement.........so you will probably be unable to get it out. Go to the nearest pharmacy %26amp; see if they have any wax you can put on the wire to keep it from poking you. Call your dentist first thing in the morning =)
Reply:I'm assuming that whatever it was it was for braces, at least I can't come up with any more reasons why there'd be a wire in your mouth. Anyways I'd call up your orthodontist and ask them about it (get one of the doctors or assistants who work on the braces on the line, not a receptionist) and talk to them about it. Hopefully it's something minor, I remember a thin wire came off on my braces and it wasn't anything serious but just check in with them, they're your best source of information as much as I've been going there for almost 3 years now!
Reply:Go to the dentist?
Reply:My Orthodontist told me that the next time that I come in I can have it checked out but not to make an appointment just for that.

What is the best at-home method for reapplying a front tooth that has broken?

I had a root canal done on the tooth years ago, and had the nerve removed, so there is no pain. I have been using a temporary dental filling material to make a kind of structure for the tooth to better adhere to, then apply it with a drop of super glue. I have to reapply it quite often. I went to the dentist and they said I need a bridge, which I cannot afford right now.

What is the best at-home method for reapplying a front tooth that has broken?
I built a front tooth from some two-part epoxy. It comes in a roll and is moldable and finishes with sandpaper and acrylic paints/sealant.

Super glue holds it in place to the root canal's snags-the superglue works for awhile, but isn't permanent by any means. Not intended for structural replacement, it does a good job for asthetics, especially good if the cost of a crown or bridge is exhorbitant.
Reply:I feel you on that one. I had a botched root canal and had broke my tooth off it hurt so bad. I had to get a flipper, which is still kinda expensive. I do not think you will get away other than to look into doing a google search on tooth repair kit.
Reply:Go to your dentist %26amp; have a little flipper temporary made . Only takes a 30 min to make. not satisfactory for permanent use %26amp; some dentist won't make them cause patients will wear to long %26amp; it causes irritation %26amp; problems. Will need to call first %26amp; see if he will make you a temp. DR Walker

I fell and chipped my teeth!!?

i fell off a moving car the other day and broke my two front teeth [top] they said no pulp was showing and the roots are okay but how are they going to fix them? they said the loose teeth surrounding the chipped ones will reattach but how will they "fill in" my chipped ones?

CHOOSING BEST ANSWER AFTER I GET A FEW GOOD ONES!! DETAILS PLS!

I fell and chipped my teeth!!?
If the chips are small, they can probably repair it by putting a composite in. it you broke part of the tooth, then your best bet is probably a crown. Also, you want to follow up with x ray of tooth on regular bases. often, tooth that suffers blunt trauma can die and can have external resorption(body thinks the tooth is foreign object and start eating away the root structure). Also the fall can cause vertical fracture that sometimes the x ray does not pick up. Good luck! discuss your options with your dentist.
Reply:Well that was a bit of a silly thing to do wasn't it?

I guess they will just crown them at some point....quite pricey I should think.
Reply:dude you need to wear a seatbelt!

that really sucks. they will fix them with like an overlay thing. dont worry- it wont be noticeable.
Reply:Likely they will use ceramic after shaving them a bit. It is slightly painful according to my sister. She has a ceramic fill-in and also a whole new fake tooth, haha. Have fun :)
Reply:I really depends on how badly your teeth are damaged. If you have chipped a tooth, it is an extremely good idea to visit your dentist promptly, even if you are in no discomfort. Teeth may fracture for a variety of reasons, including cavities, congenitally weak enamel, brittle teeth due to root canal treatment or non-vital pulp, and trauma. Fracture lines within a chipped tooth may continue to increase as well, creating greater risk of further chipping or discomfort. Treatments for fractured teeth range from placing new fillings to crowns, or veneers. Extensively fractured teeth may require root canal treatment or, rarely extraction. If a tooth has fractured off at the gum line, it may still be savable! You must go to a dentist ASAP, this is something you cannot leave exposed. good luck!
Reply:My son chipped three of his front teeth on a coffee table and they were fine for about 6 months or so...then they started to turn brown. So we had to put caps on them. He was only two at the time so he had to be sedated and whatnot.

I also had an orthodontist chip away too much of my teeth after having braces removed and all I had to do was have the chips filled in with a white dental filling.

So...basically...that's two options you have for fixing your teeth. I would say that it would depend on how badly they're chipped. You might could fix it with a filling or you may end up having to have them capped.
Reply:First off, the loose teeth do not reattach, you are misinformed.

Second the will use a temporary bond the fix the cracked teeth and then you will have to get a crown on those, for them to be permanent,.
Reply:LOL this made a laugh.... just ask the dentist!
Reply:Wow, you have a WHOLE slew of falsehoods here. That's the problem with this forum....most people answering don't have a clue.

This is usually a simple fix. The procedure may not even need you to be numbed up if the teeth aren't already sensitive. A small diamond on the handpiece [drill] will be used to roughen up the edges of the chipped areas. Then a very weak etchant will be applied and washed off. A fluid bonding agent is next and then reinforced plastic [composite] is added. All of this is hardened with a bright light. It should match your existing teeth so well that only you and the dental office will be able to tell the difference. Nothing to lose any sleep over.
Reply:they will prob CROWN your chiped teeth. or cap thm :)
Reply:they will probably cap them if the root isn't showing. it's what they did to my brother. They kind of just build onto the tooth you have there..

What the different ways a tooth thats been broken be fixed?

If it is a molar and the cusp (or point) has been broken then the only solution is to build the tooth back up and crown or cap the tooth. You might be able to have filling material placed in the tooth but that is only a temporary solution as the tooth will break again and most likely worse than before. If there is no damage to the cusp, you can get away with just getting a filling. If it's a front tooth, depending on the size of the break, most likely a crown of veneer as a filling will never stay in. If it's just a small chip, they will most likely just smooth it down.

What the different ways a tooth thats been broken be fixed?
There's no other way then going to the dentist and have it fixed. It's going to cost a couple of hundreds but it's better then having a chipped tooth. Good luck!

How does clove oil effect teeth? Kill nerve? break down enamel?
Sounds great, lemme know when you try it!
Reply:I do not think it will harm enamel. It has a temporary anesthetic property.
Reply:Oil of cloves, also Clove oil, is an essential oil from the clove plant. It is a natural analgaesic used primarily in dentistry for its active ingredient eugenol. It can also be purchased in pharmacies over the counter, as a local anaesthetic for dental pain relief, mainly toothache; it is also often found in the aromatherapy section of health food stores. The oil produced by cloves can be used in many things from flavouring medicine to remedies for bronchitis, the common cold, a cough, fever, sore throat and tending to infections. Its country of origin is India.

Oral use

Oil of cloves is known best for its anaesthetic properties. It is widely reported to be effective, and prior to the availability of safe, approved topical anaesthetic drugs, was used by some dentists. It is considered safe in very small quantities (%26lt;1500 p.p.m.) as a food additive. [1] However, clove oil is highly toxic to human cells at relatively low (.03% v/v) concentrations. [2] It is unapproved for any topical or oral use in the United States. If ingested in sufficient quantity or injected, it has been shown to cause life-threatening complications, including Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, Fulminant Hepatic (Liver) Failure, and Central Nervous System Depression.

I injured one of my teeth a couple of years ago, and every once in awhile a bit more of it falls out. Lately I noticed a little white lump under the spot where that tooth is missing, and I have no idea what it is, as I cannot afford to visit a dentist.

I have a lump on my gums, near a tooth that has been broken. What is it?
you have the beginning of an absess, heat will help most of the time.put raw rice in a sock and tie it off.put in microwave and heat for 40 seconds hold on jowl until cools sould help good luck
Reply:my band is a grade Report It

Reply:You need to find a dentist and soon. That sounds like an infection and you could end up losing several teeth and be in serious pain if you let it go untreated. Check with any local dental school, some of them have clinics where the students (supervised) work on you for a very low price. Charity hospitals also do some dental work.
Reply:It's an abscess. You need an antibiotic. I would check and see if there are any organizations in your area to help pay for a visit, or any free clinics. If you don't get it taken care of, it can spread, into your sinuses, blood, even into your brain.

Broken Plastic Retainer?

Today, as I was brushing my retainer, I heard a cracking noise, and it broke. One of the teeth sections completly fell off. I don't think I will wear it until I get a new one. I have a few questions though. I have only had this retainer for 6 months, so should I maybe get the other type of retainer? I don't understand why this would break so quickly, and I'm thinking it has to do with the type of retainer. Does it?

Broken Plastic Retainer?
First, don't wait too long because you don't want your teeth to shift positions after all that time in braces. It seems odd that your retainer broke so easily. When retainers are made they are not to be too thick because you would talk funny, plus it just takes up too much room in your mouth. I'm guessing your retainer was too thin causing it to break. I'm not sure what you mean by other type. Their can be some alternatives, but it's best to talk with your Orthodontist first. Again don't wait too long. Good Luck
Reply:Im not really sure if it has anything to do with the retainer, it might. Best thing to do is go in and get it taken care of right away. Tell them what happened and they should be able to help you. Good luck!

I have a tooth that has broken and all that is left is right at the gums...?

It cracked in a car accident a few years ago and has just progressivly gotten worse. I am so afraid to go to the dentist, now on top of that anxiety, I am embarassed. We never went to the dentist as kids unless there was a problem. My own kids get cleanings twice a year and are totally comfortable. How do I take care of this? I am tempted to try to pull what is left of it myself.....

I have a tooth that has broken and all that is left is right at the gums...?
No , please do not try to pull out whats ls left. You could get your gums infected and have a bigger problem. The nerve, which is called the pulp in the tooth is probably dead, since your not in pain. So that is good news, your not in pain, because it is very painful if the nerve in the tooth was still alive. Please be assured, there is no reason to feel embarassed about this. I am a former Regesterd Dental Assistant and we saw people with the same problem you have, and we never, ever, said any thing about them. This is our profession and we are here to help you not put you down. There are a lot of people like you, who are scared to see the dentist. When you make your appointment, let the receptionist know you feel scared and they will writt this in your chart, so the dentist and the assistants will know before your appointment. They will do everything they can to try to make you feel relaxed. Maybe you could have the dentist prescribe you something to ease the anxiety before your appointment. They also should have laughing gas, that will also help you with the anxiety. All the Dentist will do is, take an x-ray of this tooth to see what is left in the gum area, then he will numb the gums and then extract the remainer of the tooth or root. This will leave you without a tooth in that area and eventually, you will need a bridge or implant, because when a tooth is missing and the teeth next to that missing tooth, will start to shift. Please don't be embaressed, thats why we are in this field of dentistry and we are here to help you, not hurt you or make fun of you, because you never went to the dentist. There are millions more like you, that we treat all the time. Good Luck and happy smiling!
Reply:Speak to ur dentist about your anxiety and get some advice regarding the tooth. most dentists are trained to deal with nervous patients and undrestand your stress and will do their best to deal with it. Do not try to pull it out yourself because it can become infected and cause other problems.

Take care

What can I do? My teeth are moving - retainer broke - in the mean time??

My teeth are moving and are getting crooked, and scraping my tongue, any suggestions of what I can do until I get a new retainer?

What can I do? My teeth are moving - retainer broke - in the mean time??
i know it sounds impossible but you have to try and out the old retainer in even if it has snapped in half as this will keep your teeth in place meaning the new retainer will hurt alot less!!!

However it actually depends on when you got your inprints for your new retainer as if you got them imprinted within 48 hours of your retainer breaking then the new retainer will move your teeth to the imprinted shape and your teeth wouldn't have moved much within those 48 hours!!!

Anyway good luck and i hope you're not in too much pain i know how it feels :(

How do dentist extract a tooth that is broken down to the gum line it's a wisdom tooth?

With a sort of "hook" tool. Not pleasant, but a necessity.

How do dentist extract a tooth that is broken down to the gum line it's a wisdom tooth?
Usually with surgery. :( Minor of course though! :)
Reply:theres a tooth paste out there called ethedent it's 5.8% floride it'll help you save your teeth for real i went from 14 cavities to 1 a yr, now cuz of this stuff only from your dentis you get this perscription from ok... reguler tooth paste has 2.4-3.0 %% but this works trust me ok choose my answer please i need to past 2nd level so i can help more ppl thank's wall l.
Reply:They have special instruments called "Elevators" that can help loosen the tooth and push it up a bit and then they grab it with forceps. If that doesn't work surgery may be necessary they usually cut the gums and then cut into the bone holding the tooth in to get it out. Don't let any of this scare you you'll be numb the whole time. You can go to a specialist that can knock you out if you need it. It can be a difficult procedure depending on how stubborn the tooth is and the dentist's experience.
Reply:They will numb the area, and drill it some to get an opening going, then they take dental pliers and removed the entire piece or pieces. It's not all that bad, just ask for Motrin 800mg. and take with food after the numbness wheres off. =)

2 bottom teeth about to break through...baby is only 2 weeks old...is that possible?

Yes ! My girlfriends baby got teeth at 4 weeks. It happens.

2 bottom teeth about to break through...baby is only 2 weeks old...is that possible?
Yes. Some babies are even born with teeth, get ready for sore nipples, youch!
Reply:Yes it is. There have been cases where children have actually been born with teeth. Rare, but it does happen.

You can actually read about it in Guiness Book of World Records.
Reply:Oh so sorry...your kid is going to do a job on your nipples.
Reply:Oh yes. It is not that uncommon for babies to be born with teeth.
Reply:Yep, definitely not unheard of. I have a friend who's baby was born with several sticking through. Sometimes they will even recede and come back later. Nothing to worry about, unless you're nursing.... :)
Reply:it's not unheard of, occassionally babies are even born with a tooth! however, it is possible to see those bottom teeth long before they actually come through, I thought my daughter was going to teethe early too, but they didn't break the surface for 3 more months...
Reply:YES! I have heard of babies born with teeth.

Poor thing. Too young to hold a teething ring, too young to understand pain.
Reply:yes , some babies are even born with teeth. but somtimes it just seems like they are getting teeth but they aren't they are just doing what they call "working" them. hope this helps
Reply:Many babies already have some teeth when they are born. Just go see your chemist and get some bonjela or equivelent to rub on babies gums to relieve the pain. It does tend to make breast feeding a more interesting time as you never know just when baby is going to use those nice new teeth. I would maybe spend some time under a heat lamp to toughen your nipples if they are not already tough.
Reply:I had a friend who was born with a tooth. The weird thing was that this tooth was grayish in color while the others were white. I don't know what this means but those are the facts, jack.
Reply:Very possiable. Some babies, although rare, are born with teeth. Every baby is different, it is very early but it does happen. Your really luckly actually, you wont have to go through months of a teething =) COngrats on the new baby!
Reply:Hi, sounds like you already got several of the right answer, which is that some babies are even born with a tooth or two, and those 2 bottome teeth of your baby's may take a while to completely break through, anyways. Here's what I had to chime in on: don't freak out if your nursing! Keep nursing, if baby bites you give your honest reaction of OUCH! and pull baby off the breast. It should only have to happen a couple times before baby realizes that if he/she bites, no more nursing and usually that's all it takes to not bite. To be honest, a baby that little may not even try to bite b/c usually at that age they're very hungry when they start nursing and biting is the last thing on their minds. If baby is biting, he's not latched on properly which means he's not eating, he's just playing or bored and he doesn't need to be having a nursing session right then.
Reply:yes it's possible, but also may be what is called milk buds. where white bumps show up on the gum line where the teeth are going to come in. they can show up and go away for months. this is normal to see in a baby this age. really more normal than actual teeth coming in. but teeth are a possibility also. at your next dr. appt. just point it out to your dr. if they have not come in and see what they think. teeth can be funny, our daughter's top two teeth were right there at her 9 month and the dr said any day now and they just came in the day of her 1 year appt. they would start to come through and then go back up. good luck.

If one of my brackets is loose on my braces, is it considered "broken"?

It is just slightly loose from the tooth...is it BROKEN!?

If one of my brackets is loose on my braces, is it considered "broken"?
I'm a Certified Dental Assistant %26amp; the Dentist I work for has been doing orthodontic work for the past few years so I know a little about it. I also have braces. If a bracket is loose or has come off nothing is broken. A new bracket does need to be cemented back on. It is not recommended to use the same bracket, you will need a new one. Some dentist want to use the same brackets to save on money but I have read the instructions on a new bracket kits and they say do not reuse, so make sure your dentist uses a new bracket. Also, this shouldn't cost you any extra money, things like this should be covered in the overall cost of the braces.
Reply:Thanks for that answer MaryG! I have been very careful with my braces. But I had a bracket come off in my sleep one night. The orthodontist did put the same bracket back on. Here I am two months later and the same bracket came off in my sleep. Thanks for the info, I'll request a new tube. Report It

Reply:If it's just loose, no. But I'd have the dentist tighten it before it does break.
Reply:No, but you have to go back to the orthodontist so that they can recement it to your tooth. Don't let things get worse.
Reply:the whole set is not broken. all they will do is change the wire and cement a new bracket on. it is nothing major about 6 of mine popped off over 2 years.
Reply:Nope it's not. That happened to me a few times. Next time you go to the orthodontist, he will fix it.
Reply:no... its not broken but it will cost you because the dentis will need to stick it to ur teeth again. u need to go to the dentist right away b/c if u dn't... the braces wont function well

Do my teeth look THAT bad?

okay during the summer my sister freakin splashed water on me and i slipped on the wood floor and BROKE two of my teeth. i was crying. a LOT. not because of the pain but because i didn't wanna get fake teeth. and then i had to get two root canals. and i can get the tooth crowns whenever i want but a part of me doesn't want to. i kinda want to keep them how they are, just so they can be like a small flaw i have or something, you know? i really really don't wanna get crowns.

these are pics of my teeth

do you think i would be okay just leaving them how they are for a while? or do you think they look extremely terrible and i just must get them fixed asap?

Do my teeth look THAT bad?
You are too cute for color TV. I think your teeth are fine. Plus they will be a constant reminder to your sister.
Reply:They aren't horribly bad. It looks like you still have baby teeth that need to come out. Give it time, they'll fill in nicely.
Reply:i think you could leave them if you want... it looks kinda cute :)
Reply:I think you should get them fixed
Reply:fix um the soooner the better ....i got my braces on and they fixed my bite in 2 years!!! hope i could help:)
Reply:ok, thank you *****les.

Theyre ok. You need to take care of your teeth as well as you can, and get some work done later. Dental work is extremely expensive and uncomfortable.
Reply:they arent bad at all. they could be so much worse like no front teeth at all. if your not comfortable getting new tooth crowns then wait until you feel comfortable
Reply:You might want to get it fixed, because you have a slight curve on the (your) left. It's ok, though, because my teeth are like a billion times worse than yours. I'm a freshmen in high school, and I need braces. One of my teeth is up really far, too. You're lucky that most of your teeth are straight!

♥Hope this helps!♥
Reply:get them fix ASAP
Reply:i'd opt to get them fixed no offense
Reply:you will be fine if you want to leave them be..
Reply:they don't look bad at all!! its just that one tooth that's slanted and thats not very noticable. just get it fixed as soon as you can!
Reply:they look alittle uneven but i think it would be fine if u left them for a while, it depends on how much you care about what others think of ur teeth. maybe u could get some advice from ur dentist??
Reply:i think you should get braces and correct the gaps
Reply:if i saw you on the street i couldn't tell...by the way that was scarey.
Reply:you can just get the top and bottom ones reshaped, it's really simple, and dosn't hurt. but crowns will not hurt that bad, or look or feel fake, it's just like getting a cavity filled.
Reply:I dont think they look that bad. If you dont want the crowns dont get them.
Reply:if you wouldn't have said anything I probably wouldn't have noticed. But someone surely will eventually. If you are self conscious about it, get them fixed. There is an enamel dentists can use to attach to your real teeth to build-up that portion which is missing. My friend got it and you'd never know they were half fake!
Reply:since you've had the root canals, the painful part is done, getting the crowns will not hurt, if that is the issue..... also, since you've had root canals, the tooth, is basically dead, and over time, will break and wear down .... I would get the crowns or veneers if they decide to do it that way, you'll have a beautiful smile.
Reply:u shuldn't b on here askin this type of question all the "yes's" r gonna make u feel too self-conscious about ur self, dont worry about 'em darling
Reply:they aren't horrible..... but they wont take out your tooth and give you a denture they just put extensions on them... im getting that done on two of my teeth in a few months cuz they are really short... oh and the extensions look real you wouldn't see a difference from what they looked like b4.... Wow you have really white teeth!
Reply:If I were you I would get them fixed! I mean... you would have SUCH a pretty smile if you did! But do what you want to do!!! The only person that makes your choices, is YOU!!! =)
Reply:Your teeth are very nice and I can see why you don't want to mess with them. It looks adorable, you're right.

The question would be whether the broken parts are protected or not. If the dentist doesn't think they'll rot from the enamel being busted....then keep them. You can get the crowns when you're 30 if you want them.
Reply:you should get them fixed, NO OFFENCE i don't think it would be considered a cute flaw.
Reply:They dont look horrible.... but if I were you I would still get crowns.
Reply:Get the crowns!
Reply:When I was 8 I broke off my two front teeth and had them capped. When I was done growing they had to be replaced and have had them ever since. They look just fine. Go for it.
Reply:yes
Reply:yes they are ugly
Reply:Uhm..I think the curve part is wierd.
Reply:My eyes! They burn!

How can I re-attach a broken bracket on my braces?

The glue broke off my tooth, and is there any way I can get it back on. My orthodontist is incredibly hostile.

How can I re-attach a broken bracket on my braces?
DONT try to glue it back on yourself. your orthadontist uses special dental grade glue that is meant to stay attached to your teeth, but that also doesn't harm you. if you use any other kind of commercial glue it could damage your tooth, or, he might not be able to get the bracket off, or the bracket will just fall off again.

Make an appointment with your orthodontist, it happens all the time.
Reply:You need to go see your orthodontist, you shouldn't need an appointment for something like that. Just go in and tell them the situation.
Reply:Your better just going back to the dentist %26amp; getting it fixed probably
Reply:Well suck it up and go back and have them do it right. Don't try to jury rig it yourself. You may make things worse and cost more money
Reply:You need to make an appointment with your orthodontist to get it re-bonded. If you don't do it asap you might delay your entire treatment. You wouldn't want that to happen now would you?
Reply:There is no way for you to glue your bracket on by yourself. Call your orthodontist and tell him/her what happened and make a quick appointment to get in and get it glued back on. Best of luck!

Loose teeth afte gettting hit in he mouth with a board.?

In August I got hit in the mouth with a 4x6 when I stepped on it it came flying up and whacked me. Besides a gash that went through and through the skin, 2 of my teeth were knocked loose. X-rays showed not breaks and that the teeth intact. I was stitched up and my teeth pushed back in place and I was told that they will tighten up. The gums have healed but the teeth are still loose but not as loose as they were. I have no problems eating or anything, except when it got really cold out they started to hurt.

I thought by now they would have been tightened up or will they always be a little loose.

Loose teeth afte gettting hit in he mouth with a board.?
Hi, I'm a dentist.

How long ago was it that your teeth were initially traumatized? Also, how out of place were the teeth (you mention they were "pushed back in")?

It can take approximately 6-8 weeks for traumatized, loosened teeth to shore up in the socket. The bone surrounding the tooth needs that time to heal.

You need to keep in mind that there is a chance that the teeth will not shore up completely, and that the teeth may be dead. If this is the case, root canal therapy may be an option to save the teeth. Extraction of the dead teeth, followed by a partial denture or implant-supported crowns is also another option. Teeth darken if they die...the tooth will turn a gray/brown color. It can take months for the tooth to change color.

You should be re-evaluated 6 weeks after the initial trauma and splinting process. You didn't mention whether or not your teeth were splinted, but it sounds like they should have been.

Good luck. I hope this helps.
Reply:They should tighten up eventually. Try to not put very much pressure on them when eating, if you can.

Whitening teeth Q?

4 years ago I fell and broke my 2 front teeth, so the dentist filled my teeth in w/ who knows what. 2 yrs ago i got braces and im getting them off in a month. my teeth are naturally a bit yellow, so if i decided to get my teeth whitened, would my "fake" ones get whitened too?

Whitening teeth Q?
Any good dentist will know exactly what to do for you. They probably will whiten only your natural teeth so that they match your falsies. :-)

If you try at home whiten, the strips shouldnt affect your fake teeth so you would get pretty even results.
Reply:You have composites bonded to those front teeth and they won't change shade. If you lighten your teeth you will probably need to have the restorations changed to match the lighter shade.
Reply:No the ''fake''tooth put wont get whitened. When you get braces taken off i think they polish your teeth so just wait and see what happens when you get your braces off. Or whiten your teeth and get the fake tooth replaced with a new shade to match the rest of your teeth. Ask your dentist, he/she knows the best way to handle this. Good luck.
Reply:Here are many ways that you can whitening your teeth!

For home remedies.

Mix baking soda and hydrogen peroxide to form toothpaste. Brush the teeth regularly with this paste. It will remove all stains in a month.

Use bicarbonate of soda 5 minutes before brushing the teeth with normal toothpaste in the morning. This is a good home remedy for teeth whitening.

Rubbing the bark of walnut tree on the teeth helps in removing all stains from the teeth.

Strawberries are considered natural teeth whiteners. Rubbing the teeth with strawberries daily will remove all the stains.

If you would like a suggestion on tooth whitening gel, here's something for you!

Crest Night Effects Whitening Gel (about $18.00) allows you to remove stains while you sleep. The tooth whitening system has a fresh, wintergreen flavor. After fourteen days of sleeping with this product on your teeth, you will wake up to a vibrant smile. You should see results in two days, although there are reports of tooth whitening results in one night

Can anyone recommend a Vet who does dog teeth caps or stuff?

in the LA area, in the northridge area?

my dog broke half his tooth and i don't want it pulled... i want it fixed. thanks!

Can anyone recommend a Vet who does dog teeth caps or stuff?
Ask you vet for a recommendation to a Canine Dental specialist or see if your regular vet can do it.

If you check your yellow pages under Veterinarian, they sometimes list specialists and hospitals that offer specialist services.

Police dogs sometimes get teeth made for them. Repairing a tooth will partially depend on which tooth and how much is left to build on.

If they can't fix it they can at least smooth it so the dog doesn't injure his mouth with a ragged tooth.
Reply:You need to find a good charity to give to and enjoy the dog don't obsess.
Reply:Many vets offer dental procedures, and recommend owners to practice dental hygiene on their pets.

As a private dental patient can my hubby insist he has all of his teeth removed?

Hopefully there may be a dentist out there who can help. My hubby has had bad teeth forever, they break really easily, are crooked and quite badly discoloured. In the past he has had loads removed and is now missing a lot on the top at the front so when he smiles he has a huge gap. When he was an NHS dental patient numerous dentists refused to remove them and replace with dentures but he is now wondering if he registered as a fully private patient can he insist on having the remaining ones out and replaced with false? Serious answers only please as this is a delicate matter and causes him distress. Thanks

As a private dental patient can my hubby insist he has all of his teeth removed?
I don't know your medical system, so my comments are more general.

He can probably ask, but the dentist has the right and obligation to refuse treatment that he feels is not in the patient's best interest. If your husband has used the same dentist over time, he might be able to convince him to do the work, since this dentist has dealt with your husband's problems, and has seen them first-hand.

I'd recommend he investigate cosmetic dentistry first, however. I'd be a little surprised if a dentist hasn't already suggested this. But if that doesn't work, and he's standing there in the office, cash in hand, the right dentist might take on the job. He'll just have to keep looking.
Reply:He can always ask - but I would hope that the private dentist would make the same medical decision as the NHS dentist based on the best option for your fella's teeth.

If the dentist does agree to do this and sell your hubby dentures, they MIGHT just be doing it for the money!!
Reply:This is something the dentist has to work out with the private insurance company. There are certain procedures that are covered, based on the existing conditions and treatment options. A dentist has to determine whether or not the teeth should be removed, and if so, the insurance company has to agree to pay for it.

I have dental insurance, but any major procedures have to be pre-approved by the insurance company first, so this could determine what your husband can get done, or if he has to pay out of pocket.
Reply:Dentists, both private and NHS, are trained to do what is in the best interests of the patient. They have a right to refuse to do what the patient asks if they feel it is not going to help or improve the quality of life of the patient. Your hubby can of course ask, but its not the duty of the the private dentist to do what he asks - they still have the right to make the final decision.
Reply:My mum is at a private clinic, they are very good! She got all of her teeth drilled down and had caps put on top of them, she now has gorgeous teeth and now doesn't suffer with any problems....you should definatly think about going private and its cheap as well about £10 a month on denplan.

I don't think your hubsand should get his teeth removed or he wont be able to chew on his food...but i defo look into having caps put on.
Reply:Doesn't matter - dentists are trained to save teeth pretty much at all costs. He can request to have them removed, but demanding will get him no where. Start with phone calls to various offices and find a dentist who will agree to a full mouth extraction. Good luck - you will need it.
Reply:He can. Unfortunately, if there is nothing wrong with the teeth or gums, most (if not all) dentists won't remove all of them. Any real teeth that he can keep are a benefit to him in the long run. If there is no indication for the tooth to be removed, a dentist can lose their license for doing something like that.

Dentists would probably (or may have already) recommended a removeable partial denture (and crown the "easily broken teeth") or implants. The problem with full dentures is that the jawbone shrinks a bit once all the teeth are removed. Sometimes it shrinks so much that the denture just kind of floats on the bottom gums. It is much more difficult to chew than before.

They're not just trying to gauge him for money, it's a better result if he can keep any of his remaining teeth.
Reply:He can certainly ask. Most dentists extract teeth when no other options are available. He may have to be referred to an oral surgeon.
Reply:NO i don't think a dentist will pull all your hubby's teeth if he thinks he can save some. Like you i think that if your hubby is paying he should decide what he has done. But look at it from a dentists prospective - extraction about £30 , root treatment and a crown upwards of £300 so why extract when there is lots of money to be made.

Perhaps i am being a bit cynical.

I hope you find a dentist who is willing to carry out his wishes. good luck.
Reply:i had the same problem and i finally found a dentist to pull all of mine and give me a denture so tell him to not give up b/c their are dentist that will at his request.
Reply:If you do get a dentist to take the your hubbies teeth out it might be more economical at the moment but not in the long run. Let him have a talk to relatives or friends who have had their teeth out along time ago and then he can make his decision. Alot of patients who take their teeth out early later regret it when they cannot cope with the resorbed bony ridges. Best advice is to get a removable partial denture(ideally- metal partial) and maintain the teeth he has with meticulous oral hygiene. Brushing twice a day and flossing.

Good Luck

I have 2 really loose adult teeth, can I just take them out?

I'm 14 and 6 weeks ago I broke my 2 big front teeth on top and had to have the broken pieces pulled out. Now the 2 teeth next to the gap are so wobbly they're about to fall out. Can I just take them out since I have to get some fake teeth anyway? They're really loose, I mean they move when I talk they're so loose.

I have 2 really loose adult teeth, can I just take them out?
I'd just take them out. I did it when I had some that were really loose. Since you'll be getting something to replace the teeth that were already out, I don't see where 2 more would cost a lot more.
Reply:go to your dentist, he can save those teeth, he can splint them in
Reply:I would take them out .
Reply:Geez man, talk to a dentist! Unless there is a dentist on here how can anyone answer that.
Reply:Oh man i say go to the dentist quickly. Dont pull-em out because you could get infected with just hands touching it, and then ull have a gum infection.
Reply:You should really call a dentist fast and thats very important HURRY!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Reply:you can go to the dentist...

or

take them out and put them in milk this will keep the nutrience and calcium in it... the dentist will put them back in
Reply:Believe me getting fake teeth is probably going to be more expensive than him just fixing those, so if the problem is no dental insurance, then you probably would at least what to call and find out which would be cheaper. Putting them in milk will hold the calcium in them for the dentist to put them back in, but this will only work if you plan on going to the dentist very soon. I suggest calling the office and getting thier advise. They are the only ones that know thier pricing. I hope this helps. Good luck.
Reply:I'd just take them out. If they're that loose they're probly not worth saving if it's even possible which I doubt.
Reply:no corn on the cob for yu!!! but I bet yu can spit like a cobra on steroids!!!
Reply:If you keep taking teeth out like that you'll soon have none left. It sounds like you have more than a few that need some attention soon if the other ones just broke without being hit or anything. Better get the rest checked soon or you'll be needing more than 4 or 5 false teeth.

My teeth are falling appart?
I don't know that the condition of your teeth and effect your weight. i do know that you should get your teeth dealt with. breaks and infections can cause serious damage.

an abcesed tooths puss can bore its way down the root channeling a tunnel through your tooth and into your jaw bone. it wont stop there until it finds a place to drain.

Look into a government program that can help you deal with this.

I would be careful though when looking into a health benefits company. A lot of them do not save you money and they have very few providers. The company I am talking about has been in business for 14yrs, BBB members and have over 1.5 million customers.

Below is the site if you would like to check it out.

Good luck with everything.

Reply:You do need to see a dentist, but make sure you use mouthwash with fluoride in it to protect your teeth and much as you can until you can get it fixed. As mentioned before, you may be able to find deals with dentists, and you could explain your situation to different dentists to see if they will agree to help you for a very low cost that you could afford.

When do children's second teeth stop growing?

a friends daughter broke her front tooth and the dentist glued it back on but she is just nine, so will the live tooth outgrow the piece that was re-attached

When do children's second teeth stop growing?
The visible portion (crown) of the teeth are completely formed before they erupt (start to enter the mouth). So in this sense, they really do not technically grow. However, they may appear to be growing as they erupt, until they have reached their final orientation. (Also note that during this time the root portion is still forming, so this part could be considered to be growing, but as far as the question is concerned... the visible portion of the tooth will not grow in size).

For this reason, the tooth will not "outgrow" the restoration that the dentist placed. However, there is a slight chance that if the tooth is still moving into place that the filling may be slightly larger or smaller than need be in comparison to the neighboring teeth once they have all reached their final position.
Reply:if there 2nd teeth didnt stop growing they would have mouths like horses
Reply:HELLO,

Can they fix a gap in my front teeth without braces?

i had braces for almost four years. they have been off for almost five years now. however, i have started to get a gap in my front teeth. my retainer broke a couple years ago. it isnt big, but still bothers me. i do not want braces back on!

Can they fix a gap in my front teeth without braces?
Easiest way is for them to make you a new retainer to help close that gap slightly/prevent it from getting better. They can place veneers over the front two teeth, they place these by grinding the enamel down slightly and then cementing these porcelain facings on the front they just make them a little wider to fill the gap. The bad thing is this would be permanent and you would never be able to go without veneers or crowns on these teeth. They could also bond some filling material into the gap which would still involve possibly some permanent grinding, ust less. Your best bet is a new retainer to wear at night to close the gap.
Reply:Yeah, you can stick some chicklets gum in bewteen them..
Reply:how about porcelain veneers? i have them to cover up a fillings on my front teeth. they aren't cheap but they look nice and they are a quick way to fix problems.
Reply:they could put veneers on, which is kind of like a crown. The downside is that you lose some of your natural tooth, which is not good, and your teeth will probably continue to shift over time. I believe, if the movement is minimal, they could fit you with a new retainer that may correct the movement, but I cannot say for sure without actually seeing your teeth. call your dentist and ask......good luck.
Reply:If you don't want to go the braces route again or if you don't want to do veneers or crowns to close the gap I have seen orthodontists put a small bar/wire behind the 2 front teeth. I don't know if they can close it for you by using a retainer first or if it would require braces to close. You would need a consultant to answer that. Something you may not realize you are doing is clenching or grinding your teeth. Most do it during sleeptime, but some do this even while awake. You can use a sleep appliance that will keep you from Bruxing (clench/grind). There are some that would fit your whole arch (that would act like a retainer too) or there is a new one called the NTI that fits just onto the 2 top teeth either top or bottom. It is small and easy to wear and it keeps your back teeth apart so you can't clench. Not sure if this helped you decide, but just wanted to let you know.....grinding/clenching will move your teeth around over the years. Good luck.

Has anyone heard of Methadone messing up your teeth?

I have been taking methadone for pain for a few years and my teeth are brittle, breaking and the enamel is coming off.

Has anyone heard of Methadone messing up your teeth?
I read it happens with medications that cause dry mouth or changes in saliva. Methadone and other opiates decrease your muscle mass so maybe it takes from your calcium too. Opiates do obsurb in the bone that is why body pain is so bad during with drawl
Reply:Don't take that drug,it will do harm to your health..

try some herbal capsule, nature and nice.
Reply:Yes, it is well established that methadone causes changes to the teeth and gums. They have even coined a name for it, meth mouth.
Reply:Yes, most pain killers are capable of that and chemo and bulimia. I think it changes the composition of your saliva. Try to ease off of that drug- get some counseling and exercise and a mild pain reliever for your problem. You are probably addicted to it anyhow so...

Where is documentation that depakote is hard on your teeth?

40 year old male patient with declining dental health, teeth cracking and breaking, etc. all in the last couple of years. I remember a neurologist telling me once that Depakote is really hard on your teeth. Now I need info/documentation to push an insurance claim issue.

Where is documentation that depakote is hard on your teeth?
Does the depakote cause nausea, vomitting or dyspepsia? These are some known side effects of depakote and they would all contribute to erosion of teeth.

Do Guinea Pig Teeth Grow Back?

A friend of mine has a guinea pig that fell off of a night stand onto a concrete floor, and broke its front tooth off. She is wanting to show him in 4H and the tooth needs to be grown back to do so, so my question is, will it grow back?

Thanks!

Do Guinea Pig Teeth Grow Back?
if it broke off, yes. Rodent teeth never stop growing. That's why they need to gnaw on things constantly to wear them down.

If the tooth fell out completely, then no.

If the tooth broke off and has a jagged end to it, you should take the piggy to the vet to have to tooth filed/cut off straight and neat, so that it doesn't have any problems eating, and so it doesn't hurt itself. And to check for any other injury.

I had to have my guinea pig's teeth filed down once (they were overgrown because the other pig wouldn't let her eat, hence she couldn't wear the tooth down). It's a pretty minor deal, and didn't cost much at all. It's not too different from clipping nails (but absolutely do NOT do it yourself!)

A nightstand is no place for a peeg. Too slippery!
Reply:maybe, go see a vet
Reply:sure they are rodents
Reply:Guinea Pig teeth continue to grow all their lives. If the tooth was not knocked out but just broken it should grow back in length.
Reply:Until it does grow back, maybe try mushing his pellet food up with a bit of water so he can eat?
Reply:guinea pigs teeth constantly grow that's why they need to constantly chew

My dad's teeth is starting to become thinner and breaking easily??

my dad's teeth is starting to become thinner and breaking easily. he is 51 thgis year and cant take too much milk coz that screws his body weight... what could me the cause?? what to do??

My dad's teeth is starting to become thinner and breaking easily??
mineral defficiency, bad diet, drinking colas and softdrinks and too much coffee can start wearing down tooth enamel.Your dad needs to make sure he is getting adequate calcium through a variety of non-dairy sources.Such as figs, soybeans, fortified juices,or fortified non-dairy milks, sesame seeds, broccoli and other green vegetables. He can also take a high qaulity calcium/magnesium supplement and a good multi-vitamin/mineral.Stop brushing teeth with flouride and replace with an herbal toothpaste that is flouride free.
Reply:you may want to check with a dentist
Reply:lack of calcium and flouride
Reply:well u could get him fake teeth just a suggestion..and I have no clue what the cause could be I could ask my mom she works in the hospital and Ill get back at u...hope this helps
Reply:If milk is a problem, he should drink orange juice for calcium.
Reply:GO TO THE DENTIST!!!! I cannot expres that anymore, take him to the dentist first thing tomorrow!!!!
Reply:Best thing to do is get him an appointment with a dentist and take him in for xrays and an exam. The dentist will sit down with you and your dad and go over a treatment plan with you both.
Reply:It sounds as if your dad has something going on internally, i.e. lack of calcium, vitamins etc. My mother went through the same thing.

You need to have your dad go to the dentist, he may need to take supplements and/or have special treatments
Reply:I think it is called Pyorrhea,I had this and my teeth became thin,my teeth were breaking off,my gums hurt all the time, and they would bleed when I brushed them. If this is what it is,he needs to go to the Doctor. I had all of my teeth pulled out back in 2000' and believe me I've never felt better.

When did your baby get his teeth beyond the first 4?

My son is 7 months old and has his bottom 2 and top 2 teeth. The other night he woke every 2 hours (never completely) and has been fussy, drooling, less appetite, etc. so I assumed some more are coming, but there is no sign on his gums when I look or when I feel. How long ahead of time can the symptoms appear before the teeth start to break through and which ones should come next so I know where to look?

When did your baby get his teeth beyond the first 4?
Each baby developes at his/her own pace..... Yours could be starting with the two upper ones now, or maybe more.... mine got his first tooth @ 6 months, then came 3 top ones 3 weeks later, then a week later the fourth top along with the third lower. He just got his fourth bottom one 2 weeks ago, and he is 11 months now....so GOOD LUCK TO YOU.

All you can do is try to make him comfortable by using oragels (if they work for yours, as they didn't for mine). Tylenol worked well for the pain with mine along with the fluid filled teething ring.

Good luck
Reply:my sons five months and has five teeth. he got the first three at four months. he was drooling alot. the bottoms came first then the top. im not sure how long it takes for symptoms to appear.
Reply:My son had a mouthful by that age, but he is not an average child. He started rolling over at three days old....
Reply:it think it depends on the baby.... my son got his first 4 between 5 and 6 months ... and then ... nothing... he is just now getting 2 more on the lower and he is 16 months old!!!!!!
Reply:With my youngest she will be teething for weeks before any sign of a tooth.

I have broken one of my bottom molars on the left side. I have no pain as yet but i am afraid.?

The whole sid eof the tooth is not broken but it is broken. It doesn not reach the bottom nut i know sooner or later the nurves will be exposed. What do i do?

I have broken one of my bottom molars on the left side. I have no pain as yet but i am afraid.?
If the split in the tooth goes below the gum line the tooth will probably have to be pulled.

If it is cracked only above the gum line go to a dentist - you're going to need a crown.

DON'T wait. If you do you risk further damage to the tooth and quite possibly a nasty jaw infection.
Reply:I had several broken molars and I didn't pay any mind to them because they didn't hurt. Decaying teeth have a way of spreading their decay to the surrounding teeth. I ended up having to get seven molars pulled and get partial dentures. I also had an infection because I never went to the dentist to have it taken care of early.

Do yourself a favor, get your tooth treated at your earliest convenience.
Reply:Go to the dentist and get it taken care of asap!! Don't put it off until you actually get pain b/c then you'll regret it!!! Let the dentist recommend something for you!!

Why have'nt my daughters adult front teeth grown in after six months ?

My daughter lost her baby teeth about six months ago and the adult teeth have not yet broken the skin of the gums !!! Her teeth always have and are extremely well cared for so I am a little lost !!! She is seven years old and the other kids at school are starting to notice, which is compounding the problem ! Can anybody offer some me some help ?

Why have'nt my daughters adult front teeth grown in after six months ?
Sometimes the adult teeth are just a little slow at making their way in. Sometimes the tissue can be a little tough and impede their movement. If this is the case a simple cutting of the gums may allow them to erupt in quickly. Have your dentist assess them.
Reply:take her for a check up...

your dentist will be able to answer your questions

my grandson had all 4 upper anteriors extracted when he was three, at age 7 the permanent ones were not in yet, my dentist/boss had to help them along
Reply:this happened to my little cousin he lost one of his front teeth and it didn't grow in after 2 years. this was because his teeth were soft.

maybe thats why.

does your child get cavities easily or has a lot?

[[ if so its soft teeth ]]
Reply:sometimes there are no adult teeth, they don not grow in... go to the dentist for a check up

How can i make my teeth come in faster?

how can i make my teeth grow faster .. what can i do, eat, etc. i have a few teeth that just broke my gums and i want them to come down faster.

How can i make my teeth come in faster?
my dear , there are things that father science cant contradict mother nature.... so let it take its natural course.. it will grow by itself... teeth comes out following a natural pattern of growth. .. unless you want to use braces. but what for? it will come out , even if u like it or not
Reply:that is not possible, there is no way you can make your teeth come in faster(from what I heard anyway). I'm guessing you have to let them come when they come.
Reply:Your teeth don't grow in, they are already formed if they are breaking your gums. They will not come in faster, just be patient
Reply:Go to google and search it. Call a doctor. Make sure you get enough calcium in your body.
Reply:Simple answer ,you cant.
Reply:The teeth that just broke your gums still do not have completely formed roots, making them emerge faster will only cause them to fall out completely.

If those are wisdom teeth, and has been partially erupted and giving pain, you pay need to see a dentist to remove them because they may be impacted.
Reply:JAYDEN,

YOU HAVE TO LET MOTHER NATURE TAKE ITS COURSE. BY YOURSELF YOU CAN DO NOTHING, =O(

Whiter Teeth?

Does anyone know the best way to Whiter Teeth without going broke buying over the counter remedys. I mean who has $35 to spend on Crest White Strips? Any serious help would be appreciated.

Whiter Teeth?
Ummmmmmmmmmmmm if you think crest white strips is expensive then maybe you should call your dentist to see how many hundreds of dollars he charges to whiten your teeth. Crest white strips is the cheapest way there is to really whiten your teeth and it was recommended by the dentist. Once you whiten them it lasts so it is not something you have to keep repeating every month or anything. I understand that you may be a teen and don't have $35 but if you really think you need to whiten your teeth at that age then save up for it or ask your parents to buy you a box of the strips.
Reply:swish laundry bleach in your mouth. be careful do not swallow its bad for you leave in mouth 5 minutes. after brush your teeth. then use listerene mouth wash to clean out all the bleach. i use clorox bleach my teeth are as white as snow this is an old actors trick results after first try do once every two weeks
Reply:There are three ways to get the white teeth you want by using home treatments. When choosing an affordable way to whiten your teeth at home you need to take into consideration how much you want to spend, how much time you have, and your comfort level. Home treatments are much less expensive than choosing a dentist for laser teeth whitening, as dental treatments can run around $600. Here are some options for the over the counter home whitening products:

Press on strips: Press on strips (such as Crest White Strips) are made from very thin plastic and have the bleaching agent on one side. They are affordable and comfortable, and can be worn anywhere, anytime, which is basis of their marketing. They should be worn two times a day for at least 30 minutes, for a period of two weeks. They contain approximately 6% hydrogen peroxide bleaching agent, and are comfortable and convenient.

Paint on whiteners: Paint on whiteners are also affordable, although they can be time consuming, as it takes much longer to paint each individual tooth than it does to apply the adhesive strips. Also, the teeth must be completely dry before use and the bleaching agent tends to wear off quickly. It is best to use this method in the evening, right before bedtime. Paint on whitening agents contain approximately 6% of the bleaching agent as whitening strips and are used for the same length of time, two times a day for about two weeks.

Gel whitening trays: Gel whitening trays contain a much higher percentage of peroxide; almost 10%, but you will need to set aside at least an hour in the privacy of your home to use them. They are the most effective home whitening treatment, but are also the most expensive and time consuming of the three. The trays are shipped as hard plastic, and must be soaked in hot water, and then formed to your own tooth mold. After that, squeeze the gel into the trays and insert them into your mouth. You will need to wear them for approximately 15-20 minutes, and they are uncomfortable and will cause you to drool. If the gel gets on your gums, you will experience the shock of seeing albino white gums when you take out the trays, but this fades after a few minutes.

If you are looking for the quickest results, the gel trays are the way to go. You will simply need to set aside the amount of time you need to achieve the desired results, uninterrupted. While more expensive than paint on or strips, the gel trays cost a lot less than the laser whitening from the dentist. Paint on gel and adhesive strips cost much less and take longer to get the desired results, but are much more comfortable and convenient than the trays. All have been proven safe for use, but you will want to discuss the alternatives with your dentist and make sure that your dental cleaning is up to date and that you have no risk of tooth or gum decay before choosing a product.
