How long should it take for the swelling to disappear after getting wisdom teeth removed???

I'm getting my wisdom teeth out over spring break (not fun, I know..). I'm pretty nervous about the process. It'll be my first surgery. But I'll be getting them out on a Thursday, and then I have school on that Monday. Will the swelling be gone? How long does it take the swelling to disappear for most people? My friend told me that she was swollen for a month after the process. I'm pretty worried because my senior prom is the weekend after I get my wisdom teeth out!

How long should it take for the swelling to disappear after getting wisdom teeth removed???
The pain should last for about 2 to 3 days.

Heres some tips:

Do not vigorously rinse your mouth out during the first 24 hours because this disturbs the blood clots that are part of the healing process. After meals, rinse gently with warm salt water (one teaspoon of table salt to a glass of water).

You should keep your toothbrush away from the area for the first couple of days, but brush the rest of your teeth as you normally would.

At first, it may be possible to feel small fragments of bone with your tongue. These are the edges of the tooth socket and will soon disappear as the gum heals.

Depending on the type of stitches used, they may need to be removed (arrangements will be made for this to be done). If dissolvable stitches have been used, they will disappear 7 to 10 days after the operation.

To begin with, you should eat soft foods, gradually returning to a normal diet once your jaw feels less stiff. Don't drink alcohol or hot fluids such as tea or coffee, and don't eat spicy food or smoke until the gum has fully healed. These can make the wound bleed and will delay healing.
Reply:I looked liked a beaten chipmunk for like 5 days but I think it was because mine were impacted. All of my friends had no problem whatsoever and were fine by the next day, so you'll probably be fine. And if not by Monday, definitely by your prom.
Reply:I just got my wisdom teeth out 3 days ago. (I got my entire left side taken out, and one of the teeth was impacted.) The swelling wasn't a big problem for me; perhaps I was lucky, I dunno. My surgery was in the morning, and the swelling was gone by night. I was given advice to put an ice pack to my cheek as soon as I got home, and I did, which was probably why the swelling went down so fast. I was also prescribed some medicine to help with swelling (Etodolac), so maybe your dentist will prescribe you some. Now, the pain however, is a different issue...and also the fact that I'm constantly starving because I can barely eat solid foods. =(

And good luck with your wisdom teeth!
