my boyfriend got his jaw broken in an assault. its the lower jaw and it looks like half of his lower teeth are up and the other half are down. he's having surgery. i just wanted to kno if he will have to get his jaw wired shut? and if so, how long? will it have to be wired shut with braces?

yes he will have to wear braces until his jaw is aligned again. But not necessariy the wired ones, He can opt for transparent braces too. Hope ur bf recovers fast.

Reply:Yes, it'll be a long process with wiring his jaw shut and all. I'd go ahead and dump him now.
Reply:yes. My mother had to have it wired shut after surgery. As I recall they did use braces to hold the wires up. Good luck. Good news is he will lose alot of weight.
Reply:the jaw wll be wired closed just enough open to fit a straw through to eat liquidised foods, and held together with elastic bands, it can be on for 4-6 weeks depending on how the jaw lines up and how it looks on x-ray
Reply:When I had my jaw broken the first time i had a steel plate inserted into my jaw. He might get that depending how severe it is. it's not as bad as getting it wired shut but there's a better chance of it not healing properly.
