Wisdom Teeth getting pulled?
To put your mind at ease somewhat...

As doctors we are always taught to respect and honor the desires of the patient as much as possible.

If for some reason you only WANT to have one taken out (possibly due to finances), most docs will only take out the one. We might strongly encourage you to remove the other 3, but if you insist on just the one, "you're the boss".

Any decision should be made between you and the doc treating you though - info regarding your specific condition can only be made after an xray and exam.

If the surgeon says its OK to do them all at once, I would strongly encourage you to do all 4 at once.

It really sucks to have 1 taken out now, 1 in a few years, and then 2 more a few years later.

Most people would prefer to just get 'em all done at once and be done with it (1 surgery instead of 4).

Good Luck!

Reply:Depends on if they are impacted or not.

I only developed 3 wisdom teeth period (a 4th one never appeared whatsoever). All 3 of mine though were under the gums but were all impacted so needed to be removed or they could possibly have started damaging the roots of the molars they were next to.

Removing an upper tooth isn't too bad. It's the lower ones that are more difficult to contend with after surgery because food gets in those pits where the teeth were, so you have to always irrigate it out, and it's sensitive so can hurt a little bit.

Just check with your dentist and they will help you know what you should do.
Reply:Usually dentists will pull all your wisdom teeth. Ask at the consultation.
Reply:I would feel very bad if you had to wait for them to break the skin. That is some of the most awful pain to ever deal with. Get it done asap. Chances are, they will put you to sleep, and youll be so drugged up when you wake up, that youll fall back asleep again. They give you pain meds so you wont feel much pain at all either. But its the best feeling in the world on getting them removed.
Reply:None of mine had actually broken through when I had them taken out, but they were all impacted (or were going to be.) Your dentist will be able to determine if your teeth are going to grow in properly or not.
Reply:Yes, they are going to remove them while they are still impacted. Your going to be in a lot of pain!! All four of myne were impacted and i was out for a good 4 days. Seriously do hot and cold compesses or your going to regret it.
