Tell me about getting wisdom teeth pulled!?

I have an appt. to get my wisdom teeth pulled. My right side (top and bottom) have broken skin and the left have not. I'm super scared! I'm scared of the pain so I told the nurse I would like to be put to sleep for it. Now I'm scared that they will put me to sleep but I'll still be able to feel the pain or hear the sounds! Can someone tell me their personal story (preferably one with a happy ending to calm me down)!

Tell me about getting wisdom teeth pulled!?
I got all 4 wisdom teeth pulled out in 1 appointment. It wasn't done under General anesthesia, but with Nitrous oxide and I.V. sedative.Took 1 hr. but didn't know what happened.Though my doc. says that he had a hard time pulling them as my bone was very dense.I healed pretty well.I was sore for the first day and slept mostly.Didn't feel much pain because of the pain killers.

Word of advise:

Take your antibiotics and pain-killers exactly as told by doc. Also follow the instructions well.Don't brush or rinse the first day as you risk rinsing away the clots which are forming and necessary for healing.start keeping the area very clean afterwards to prevent any infection.
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 20. They were not impacted, in other words, they had broken through the gums (like yours). I was put to sleep and I didn't wake up until it was over. I slept like a baby. I was not very swollen and even went on a date that very evening. Now, if they are impacted (deep in the gums) that might take some work. Good luck!
Reply:I had all four of mine pulled at the same time. My dentist used local anesthesia, which means I was awake during the whole thing. I couldn't feel any pain, but I could feel the teeth coming out of my head (if that makes any sense). The biggest pain came when I accidentally let pain medication wear off--absolute hell on earth. But it was an accident. As long as you keep yourself medicated afterward, you'll be just fine. And you can either go to sleep during the procedure, or you can stay awake. Either way, you're not going to feel anything.

Don't worry, dentists have been pulling teeth for over a hundred years. They've got it down by now. Get some sleep, you'll be all right.
Reply:i was scared too, but before I got mine taken out I was given a valium which will make you feel really good then a shot and a mask full of laughing gas. Next thing I knew, I was waking up from surgery without one single memory of what had just happened. The next day I looked like a chipmunk because of my swollen gums, but the painkillers did the trick!

no worries!

good luck!
Reply:You will have some pain. Sorry. Just make sure that you follow what the dentist that is pulling them tells you to do. Like I remember I couldn't suck on a straw for some time (it will make a dry socket and that is bad), put ice on it to keep the swelling down (ice for an hour then off for an hour then repeat taking off the ice will prevent you from freezing your face). When in doubt take the drugs that you will get for it. That helps. Also take a few days off from work if you do to rest cause you will not want to do anything for a few days but sleep. Hope this helps.
Reply:I was put to sleep for my wisdom teeth.. Did not hear or feel ANYTHING....

The surgery lasted 1/2 hour, very fast ...

I had all four removed...

There is some pain the following days while the mouth is healing

nothing that good pain killers can cure..
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth pulled when I was 15. They were just buds and impacted pretty deep. I was put to sleep and woke up about 45 minutes later. I had swelling, but no bruising and was able to eat soft foods by lunch. I had to take a total of two motrin for the pain.

You will be fine, and can milk it to eat a little extra ice cream...

Remember not to use a straw and try not to suck on the areas where the stitches are to help prevent dry socket. (This is when the blood clot gets sucked out of the hole, and can be painful)
Reply:I had my wisdom teeth out when I was about 19. I had 4 impacted. If they put you to sleep, you won't feel a thing. After the surgery, you will be swollen for a couple of days, and it is a bit uncomfortable, but it's not anything you can't handle.
Reply:See a dentist!
