I am scared of the dentist .. But have a tooth thats broken in half .. any idea on how i can make myself go ?
Find a dentist who is specializing in treating fearful patients. A caring and compassionate dentist can usually make you feel very comfortable during dental treatment. Just let him or her know about your fear. For example, if it is the needle, then the dentist will not let you see the needle. If it is the sound of the drill, then he can use electronic drill, air abrasion, or laser to remove the cavity. If it is anxiety in general, then, nitrous oxide or iv sedation can be used. In addition, the dentist should have a written policy detailing your rights as a patient.
Reply:Imagine what bacteria will get into the sore in your tooth if you don't get it taken care of. *shivers* Get to the dentist and just get it over with. It's just one appointment and you save yourself a lot of other trouble. Believe me. :S
Reply:ask if they have nitrous oxide to help u relaxes and if u need alot of teeth remove have them gas u to sleep and take them out. nitrous is good stuff they used that and anthesia for me and dextal and had not pain in my teeth extraction and nitrous is very safe good luck.
Reply:The pain of going to the dentist is NEVER as bad as the pain you are experiencing with a broken tooth. You will feel better afterwards.
Reply:A good dentist knows that people are afraid. Let them know you are nervous. They can give you tranquilizers or gas so you are not scared at all. This really works. I had a broken tooth and was scared to have it removed, too. But it was so easy! Like, two minutes, and it was out. In fact, you may not have to get the tooth removed. If the root is good, they might just put a crown on it. So it may not be as bad as you're imagining.
Reply:I know its tough to go, but if you don't go it will get worse and infection can set in. take a parent or a really good friend with you and go to a dentist that specializes in people who have great fears of the dentist. another idea you could have the friend or parent make an appointment for you and drag you there. please go, I just finished having lots of work done and I am glad I did. Beats being in pain, any day, believe me!!
Reply:just think about what might happen if you dont, people can call you a ugly cracked toothed hillbilly lol
Reply:Think of it like this, you have already suffered much more pain and agony by NOT going to the dentist. The worst part is already over. As soon as you leave the office you'll be thinking..."why did I wait so long?".
Reply:First of all, ask your friends, family members and co-workers for suggestions on a dentist that does good work and who is gentle. Then make an appointment to go in for a consultation only. You can go in for this appointment just to meet the dentist and he or she can explain the necessary treatment and procedure to you which will hopefully put you more at ease. You can also convey your fears and concerns with the doctor at this appointment. Ask if a prescription can be written for you such as Valium that you can take prior to the actual appointment to have treatment done. Then during your appointment for treatment also have nitrous oxide (laughing gas) administered and make sure to take along a cd player with your favourite cd to listen to. You will be more relaxed than you could ever imagine. There truly is such a thing as 'painless dentistry' ... I promise :)

And remember that the dentist and the staff are very aware of patient's fears of dental treatment and they do their very best to be as accomodating as possible. Just don't be embarrassed to express your fears and concerns so they can help put you as at ease as possible. Death is the #1 fear of people. The dentist is the #2 fear of people.
Reply:In order to "make" yourself go, take small steps at a time. take the first step and call to make an appointment (try and make it on the sooner side cause a broken tooth can get worse quickly). Then tell your friends and family about the appointment so they hold you to it, maybe one of them can go with you. Then when you go into the dentist, tell him or her about your fears. It is important to let the dentist know how you are feeling and trust me, they want to know. They will be very gentle with you if they know you are scared and make sure you are feeling no pain.

Remember, even if you go in, your first appointment can be a consult and if you ask, they can explain what they are going to do and how they are going to do it.

I understand that some people are scared of the dentist, it is very normal and they have dealt with it many times. Remember that in order to be a dentist their is a LOT of school and training and they are experts at what they are doing.

Good luck!
