Wisdom Teeth Help?!....Scared to Death!! :(?

I have all 4 of my wisdom teeth in, but the problem is...I have had the bottom wisdom's since I was 14. I just got the 2 top wisdoms in about a year ago. Already the top wisdom teeth are brittle and broken (with no cavities). Is it true that the wisdom teeth are weaker, have less enamel, and smaller roots than the rest of your molars?? My top wisdoms shattered into little bits and all I have let left is one little point and some shards in the gum. Will it be terrible to have them removed like that? I am considering taking some oral sedation, like Valium or Versed. How do the oral sedations make you feel? Do you remember the procedure or the pressure and pulling of the teeth and roots? I have had a molar pulled before and cried like crazy b/c she had to cut my gum open to pull out the root...I do NOT want to have to remember something like that again...if I can help it!! Thanks guys for any info you can give!! I'm about to have a panic attack just typing this!! :((

For an anxious patient with previous bad experiences, I recommend a trip to the oral surgeon for extractions where general anesthesia or iv sedation can be used. These are often better than taking oral sedations because the dosages can be controlled easier and adjusted to the right level. A pill has to be digested and pass through the liver to get into the blood stream and it is unpredictable compared to IV sedation. If you go to an oral surgeon and have general anesthesia or iv sedation you will probably not remember the procedure at all (definitely not with general anesthesia).

Yes it is true the wisdom teeth are often malformed and have poor properties compared to other teeth. The extractions may be more complicated if the teeth are broken down.

Oral sedation often works well with fillings, but not as well for extractions because the anxiety is usually much higher with extractions.
Reply:I had 6 wisdom teeth and I had them all removed two years ago. It was not bad at all. I was put under gas and then when I woke up, I didn't feel any pain. It's just hard to eat, so make sure that you have water and soft foods. You can't eat or drink dairy products for a few days, so no ice cream!

I also had a few fillings (I just got a few this past Saturday) and it doesn't hurt, either. I had to get 2 shots in my mouth, but they numbed it with a liquid gel before. The shots don't hurt... it feels like you are pressing your finger roughly against the gums (around the cheeks).

I don't know if they can do both at once (it might cause a little pain if you have all of this done all at once). Ask your dentist about this.

Good luck!
Reply:dont worry about the fillings, i just got one today. my mouth is still numb, but oh well. i had a medium sized one in between two of my back teeth, it wasnt bad.
Reply:yes is true they are and they are weak my suggestion to will be go to a oral surgeon because they are specialized in wisdom tooth.
