If a Guinea Pig loses one of their front teeth, is this a serious problem?

Guinea Pigs have two pair of large teeth in the front of their mouths. A friend of mine has a Guinea Pig who broke off one tooth. Their vet says this is okay, but that doesn't sound right to me.

If a Guinea Pig loses one of their front teeth, is this a serious problem?
Guinea pigs' front two top teeth and bottom teeth are always growing, which is guinea pigs need to gnaw on wood and other hard substances. Sometimes the teeth will grow too long for the mouth to properly close and chew, and then it's normal for one or two teeth to break off. The guinea pig can still eat, although you may have to chop up his or her food for several days, and the teeth will grow back to the proper length in several weeks. If the break in the tooth is jagged and the guinea pig seems unable to eat, take him or her to the vet to have the tooth evenly clipped.
