If one of my brackets is loose on my braces, is it considered "broken"?

It is just slightly loose from the tooth...is it BROKEN!?

If one of my brackets is loose on my braces, is it considered "broken"?
I'm a Certified Dental Assistant %26amp; the Dentist I work for has been doing orthodontic work for the past few years so I know a little about it. I also have braces. If a bracket is loose or has come off nothing is broken. A new bracket does need to be cemented back on. It is not recommended to use the same bracket, you will need a new one. Some dentist want to use the same brackets to save on money but I have read the instructions on a new bracket kits and they say do not reuse, so make sure your dentist uses a new bracket. Also, this shouldn't cost you any extra money, things like this should be covered in the overall cost of the braces.
Reply:Thanks for that answer MaryG! I have been very careful with my braces. But I had a bracket come off in my sleep one night. The orthodontist did put the same bracket back on. Here I am two months later and the same bracket came off in my sleep. Thanks for the info, I'll request a new tube. Report It

Reply:If it's just loose, no. But I'd have the dentist tighten it before it does break.
Reply:No, but you have to go back to the orthodontist so that they can recement it to your tooth. Don't let things get worse.
Reply:the whole set is not broken. all they will do is change the wire and cement a new bracket on. it is nothing major about 6 of mine popped off over 2 years.
Reply:Nope it's not. That happened to me a few times. Next time you go to the orthodontist, he will fix it.
Reply:no... its not broken but it will cost you because the dentis will need to stick it to ur teeth again. u need to go to the dentist right away b/c if u dn't... the braces wont function well
