I had a root canal done on two back teeth more than 5 years ago. I didnt get them crowned and they broke.?

I didn't have them crowned and they broke vertically. Can my tooth be saved?

If they truly broke vertically and that involved the root it is most likely that they will have to be extracted. They can only be saved if there is enough sound and intact tooth structure to build the crown on.

This is a perfect example of why it is important to get teeth crowned right after they have been root therapied.

I wish you the best of luck!
Reply:Even though your root-canal treated teeth have broken vertically , still there is hope. What I would suggest you is to visit a dentist at an early date. Please note that even though the breakage is vertical, if the broken portion of the tooth never involved a portion of the root, then still it can be crowned. So, definitely there is hope!! Good luck.... but now dont delay to seek professional advice.
Reply:Hi, I just came across your question as am having a tiny cry, having lost another (3/4 of a) tooth today. The rest will be pulled once they get the manpower to do it, as all that's really left is roots. The tooth was all root-filled and it fractured vertically at the weeknd. I was told before it came out that saving the tooth depended on the amount of root/nerve which came out with the shard of tooth. Good Luck..you may be in luck? I am just upset because I seem to lose one a year, am still only 33 and it's aching now as the numbness wears off. x
