Whitening teeth that have tooth-coloured fillings?

I would like to have my teeth whitened however my front tooth, which I broke completely, is a tooth-coloured filling shaped like a front tooth, I was wondering how would the tooth-whitening process apply to me? Would I have to have the tooth redone etc?

Whitening teeth that have tooth-coloured fillings?
you would need to have the tooth redone if there is a major shade difference. bleaching only works for natural teeth
Reply:Teeth bleaching is ideal for people who have healthy, unrestored, teeth (no fillings) and gums. Therefore I think it's not a good idea.
Reply:I am having my teeth whitened and had a white filling replaced in my front tooth before the whitening process started.

It would also depend on the extent your own teeth have become stained eg if they look darker than the false tooth and you want them the same colour as that tooth you would not need a replacement.

On the other hand have your teeth whithened and get the replacement afterwards.

I have noticed a huge difference since I started and will be having a false front tooth to replace my own tooth that is dead.

Good luck if you decide to get it done. I feel much more confident about smiling now.
Reply:Hello, sorry but the chance of the composite material used to reshape your tooth being made whiter by using a whitening agent is very very slim. Composite tooth material has it's color built in and not subject to whitening agents. Also, some composites darken with age, and that is a permanent action. You will most likely have to get the tooth redone. Having had that issue myself at one time, and being in the dental field myself, I would be more than surprised if the tooth color could be changed with a whitening gel or paste. Good luck and I wish you well.
Reply:You need to whiten your teeth to the shade you prefer and then you will have to had the filling redone because unfortunately composite ( the tooth color filling ) is made of a resin and will not bleach. If it was a back tooth it would not be necessary to replace. Because it is a front tooth it will be noticeable. Once you get your teeth lighter and replace the filling then you will just need to touch up occasionally to keep the teeth as whit as the filling!
Reply:You will have to have the whitening done first them have a new fill placed into the tooth and this will NOT change.

so you will be billed for the two things the whiting and them the filling.

if you are having the home kit them you can talk your time with this but if you want the best you can have it done in house and them have the filling done after. but i would have the home kit as well so you can top up them you see the colour change or if you have a party to go to.

Reply:Unfortunatly if you whiten your teeth you will have to get this filling replaced. And as your teeth darken again over time the filling will stand out again because it won't match. It's not recommend to whiten teeth with fillings as it is so hard to get a good colour match for the white filling after
Reply:Dental bleaching won't take effect on black, brown or white color in the tooth cause by decay, it should be repaired before the bleaching process. It is not also effective in patients with tetracycline stain in their tooth these are the irregular horizontal lines found in the tooth these are common with adult patients. If patient grew up in an area that has a high concentration of fluoride in their drinking water, the appearance of fluorosis will not be improved also this is also applicable to patients that who were eating fluoride toothpaste during their toddler years. And lastly it dental bleaching won't lighten or bleach out the darkness in teeth caused by old amalgam fillings.

But if you are really considering whitening or bleaching your teeth, there are several options for you to choose one is by using natural teeth whitening or bleaching products that are effective and safe to use for they do not contain harsh ingredients that may cause irritation and damage to the gums and teeth.
