My tooth has broken off but the root is still intact. what would happen if i don't get it removed?

There is an opening down the middle of the root called a root canal. Once that root canal is exposed to your oral cavity due to your tooth breaking apart, germs can get in.

Once germs get in, you will get an abscess at the bottom of the tooth root (where the root canal goes to), and it will infect and rot a hole in your jawbone there, and cause serious problems.

Get it taken care of as soon as possible.

Lots of pain, risk infection leading up to an abcess, which is unbelievably painful.
Reply:Hey there. I've been studying dental hygienestry and dentistry :) A couple years ago my brother got part of his tooth broken off. We brought him to the denist a day or two after that. Sometimes they dont even have to remove it, if theirs enough of it left they just use porcelin to shape a new tooth and it looks just like normal. Otherwise, yah they'll probably just remove it. If it doesnt get removed, Im guessing your gums will start to turn black, and you might get infection. But really, I know its kinda a pain in the @$$ to go to the dentist especially considering what they charge! But honestly it would be worth it to save your tooth and get things back to normal, otherwise you might experience a load of other problems like infection which could bother your other teeth! I hope this helps, and if you have any questions just email me! Take care! :)
Reply:I think I am going through your problem several months later! I have a molar that actually had a large piece come off of it about 6 months ago...for the first few months all that happened was a little pain when chewing on that side once in a while. At about four months time my tooth hurt whenever I would eat on that side for a while and would ache on that side for a bit. Now, 6 months later I have an abscess and have to have the rest of the tooth pulled. My advice would be to please take care of it now before it burdens you later. The pain and cost to repair it now outways the latter. Not to mention that an abscess can be life threatening if left untreated, and it is very unnnerving to know that at this very moment I have that infection. I have been to the dentist today, on antibiotics and the tooth is going to be pulled tomorrow. Good luck to you, take care :o)
