is this going to cause problems in the future he said he will see it in a month and i didnt go back but can it cause pain in the futyure with it beng left inside my gum right now its fine and its been 9 months but how bout down the road?
My wisdom tooth was broken when removed?
I would go back IMMEDIATELY to your dentist and insist the broken part of the tooth be removed at no extra cost. You paid for extraction of the entire tooth, firstly. Secondly, having part of that tooth in your gum will eventually cause pain and swelling and infection as it decays inside your mouth. It will migrate and eventually cause troubles with other teeth, or poke out of your gum and transmit bacteria to the inside of your gum.
I'm very surprised a reputable dentist would have left part of tooth inside your jaw to begin with. Wisdom teeth are normally extracted as oral surgery, and sometimes they must be broken to remove them entirely because the tooth was impacted or growing in sideways, or too large to be removed in one piece.
Even if the broken piece isn't causing troubles now, it will in the future, and should never have been left in your jaw at all.
Reply:It's called possible abscess.
I would go back and make sure that you don't end up with an abscess causing a lot of pain, and possible jaw damage.
It is really close to the nerves that go in to your ear as well.
Reply:IT WOULD BE A GOOD IDEA TO EVENTUALLY HAVE IT REMOVED COMPLETELY.
Reply:the dentist should have sent you to an oral surgeon right away if the root broke off. when i had mine out 1 root fragment broke off as well and he told me. "I'm going to try and take this out but if i cant get it out I'm going to send you to an oral surgeon right away." well he stuck a chisel into my hole and knocked the root to pop it off of the jaw and then pulled it out so i didn't have to go to the surgery, but his immediate second option was to get it removed by someone else.
