My daughter just turned 5 months old and her two bottom teeth are breaking through. I was just wondering now that they are coming through her gums how long will it take for them to break all the way through. What can I do to help relieve the pain. I know every baby devlopes differently I am just trying to get a rough idea of how long it will take. Thank you.
How long does it take for their teeth to come in?
Well my little boy is the same age as your little girl. He has been teething since 3 months. I use nurofen, bonjela or teething tablets (which I got fromt he chemist and tried today for the first time and they are great) not all at once tho. Bonjela seems to work but last night the poor little guy was screaming for an hour so I gave him Nurofen and he was fine. It must hurt really bad. Anyway back to the question, he has had one come out then back in and I havent seen it since so it could take ages it feels like ages anyway lol.
Good Luck.
I did try teething rings and wet washes but his gums are far too sore to even suck his bottle I had to put his milk in cereal so he would drink it thats how bad they can become.
Reply:not sure how long it takes exactly my baby is in the early stages of teething, however, Tempra is wonderful for relieving their pain. Also I would get some baby keys or a teething ring, Gerber makes some of the best ones, they have little nubbies on them that help the teeth break through!! Good luck!! Oh, my mom told me to use vanilla extract also, just rub a little on the gums and it helps a bit, the massage also feels good on their gums!
Reply:Once the teeth break through the gums, they will become more visable after a few weeks. Like you said, every baby is different. I am the mother of five, and my children all varied when it came to teething. One started teething at 4 months while another started at 6 months. To ease the pain of teething, use infant tylenol. Baby anbesol works great as well to numb the gum area. Get a few teething rings for your baby and keep them cool in the refridgerator. The baby will gum them and it relieves the teething pain. There also these teething tablets from hylands that are available from any drug store of grocery store. They are natural and dissolve instantly.
Reply:my baby sister was born with 2 teeth on the bottom.. it was interesting.. they all develop differently. my mom used clove oil in a damp rag that had been in the freezer for 15-30 minutes.. the oil numbs the area and is very safe. and the frozen rag soothes..
those silly teething rings never really worked .. and my sister had it harder cause she had tubes in her ears.. when she cut teeth she popped her tubes..
Good luck!
Reply:My son is 9 months and just cut his first tooth a few days ago. It's already gone from being just one little bump to a line of "tooth" that pokes up maybe a milimeter, and that was just in the last 3 days. As for pain relief, I've just been giving him a refrigerated teething ring (he doesn't care much for those) or a wet washcloth to chew on (likes that much better). He hasn't been in much pain otherwise, so I've been staying away from the gels and such. But like you said, they all develop differently. No idea how long the "average" tooth takes to come in...
Reply:I've heard of teeth coming in at any age. My friend's daughter is over a year old and she still doesn't have teeth, but has been teething for months. As to how fast it takes for the teeth to break through that also varies. Even with the same child each tooth is different and some will come in much faster than others. I'd roughly say a few weeks and it should be completely through. Once the top of the tooth is completely through they aren't in as much pain. Teething rings and toys with texture on them tend to help. Sometimes just a pacifier is comforting to some babies. Teething tablets help sometimes, some medicines like Anbesol (could be called something different in other countries) helps. https://www.anbesol.com/index.asp
There's also a cute little tooth chart you can print out there- it gives an average age of when each tooth comes in. Check it out.
Reply:well I am going though the same thing with my 4 month old... and from what i have learned... as the tooth commes closer to breaking through the gum will get whiter and more swolen... now a day or two before it breaks through ithe gum will be the size of the tooth.... I have herd that the teething rings are really good, but my daughter i not so found of them... the two things that work best for her, is rubbing her gum with my finger... she will sit there and bite my finger as I rub the spot... Plus I have herd that rubbing the spot will help the tooth break through faster... and the second thing I discovered, was a mistake.. LOL I bought a spill proff bottle, well it sucks as a bottle because it has a very small hole in it, but the great thing is I now fill it up with really cold water and my daughter will just suck on it forever.... she gets like an ounce in a hour... hope it helps...
